Lopez powers Suns past Mavericks
LAS VEGAS -- The Suns began the game on fire, as they quickly built their lead to a game-high 12 points with 51 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Phoenix shot 47 percent in the frame to Dallas' 41 en route to a 25-15 cushion after 10 minutes of play.
The Mavericks stormed back with a vengeance in the first 3:05 of the second quarter with a 10-0 run. Dallas' outburst knotted the game at 25-25 with help from its 71 percent shooting (5-of-7) and two free throws to open the second stanza.
Dallas wound up outscoring Phoenix 44-36 through the second and third quarters to pull within two at 61-59 after 30 minutes of action. The Mavericks sharpshooters combined for 50 percent (16-of-32) from the field during the game's middle frames.
Phoenix picked its offense back up in the fourth, as they put 34 points on the board compared to Dallas' 29. The Mavericks tied the game up at 78-78 with 2:50 remaining in the game, but then witnessed the Suns rattle of nine of the next 12 points for a six-point lead at 87-81. Phoenix never looked back, as they wound up taking the game by 95-90.
Robin Lopez paced the Suns' offensive production with a double-double comprising of 24 points and 16 rebounds.
Alando Tucker and Zabian Dowdell helped Phoenix to victory, as they each scored 15. Carlos Powell chipped in 13, as well.
Dallas had four players amass double digits in the losing effort. Rodrigue Beaubois tallied 16 to lead the team before leaving the game late in the fourth quarter due to injury. Shan Foster and Aaron Miles had 13 apiece, while Ahmad Nivins contributed 12.
