Morrow sets Summer League mark

LAS VEGAS -- The Golden State Warriors (4-1) ended their Las Vegas stay at the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA SPORTS with four consecutive victories following its 104-84 win over the New Orleans Hornets Thursday night. The Warriors' offense was spearheaded by a 47-point outing by Anthony Morrow, which is the highest point tally by a player in the six-year history of the league.

Morrow made 18-of-26 attempts from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe for his monumental outing.

The Warriors struck out early, as they held a 10-point edge after the first 10 minutes of play. Morrow closed out the frame with 17 tallies on 7-of-8 shooting. The Warriors bounded out to a 9-2 lead just 2:48 into the contest before the Hornets pulled within three at 11-8. Golden State quickly advanced its lead to 10 shortly thereafter.

The Warriors pushed its lead to 13 with only 54 seconds off the clock in the second with help from a jumper by Morrow. Golden State maintained as much as a seven-point advantage for most of the quarter until New Orleans found a quick scoring punch with 1:39 remaining before the half. Earl Calloway and Jaycee Carroll highlighted a 10-2 run by their squad to pull within three at 46-43 before a free throw by Othello Hunter put Golden State ahead 47-43 at the intermission.

Golden State extended its lead to 10 after 30 minutes of action mainly due to its successful shooting efforts. The Warriors connected on 10-of-16 in the quarter for 63 percent, while the Hornets made only seven baskets for 33 percent.

The fourth quarter was more of the same for Golden State, as they added 10 more points to its lead in the stanza. New Orleans pulled within seven, 78-71, 2:05 into the quarter, but that was as close as they would get as the Warriors maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest.

Lawrence Hill joined Morrow in double figures for the Warriors, as he knocked down 13 points.

New Orleans was led by Marcus Thornton's 21 in a losing effort. Calloway and Darren Collison pitched in 17 and 14 points, respectively.
