LAS VEGAS -- Goran Dragic's 17 points and eight assists led the Phoenix Suns to a 95-89 victory over the NBA D-League Select in 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA SPORTS action at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. With the game tied at 83 with 2:30 to play, Dragic took over scoring or assisting on the Suns next five possessions to seal the victory.
Jiri Hubalek paced the Suns with 20 points, while Micah Downs connected on eight-of-11 shots to finish with 19. Robin Lopez was held to 10 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
NBA D-League Select's Gary Forbes led all scorers with 26. Coleman Collins chipped in with 19 points and Curtis Stinson registered a double-double, tallying 13 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. The team was playing without Othyus Jeffers and Trey Johnson who were out with a strained left hip flexor and a right hell contusion, respectively. The duo totaled 41 points in the team's last outing.
Collins jumpstarted the NBA D-League Select squad with six early points as they jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead over the Suns. Hubalek responded for Phoenix with seven points off the bench as the Suns tied the game at 19. The teams went back and forth for the remainder of the first quarter as Walker Russell's shot at the buzzer rimmed out to settle the score knotted the score at 24 after one.
Phoenix took a 49-40 lead into halftime after taking control of the game with a 13-1 run to end the second quarter. Downs led the attack for Phoenix with six points in the frame, matching Hubalek with 10 points apiece in the first half to lead the Suns. Curtis Stinson picked up five points and seven rebounds in the second quarter as he kept NBA D-League in the game.
Led by Russell's 10 third quarter points, the NBA D-League Select outscored Phoenix 27-13 in the third frame, taking a 67-62 lead into the fourth quarter.
