Cavs close out D-League Select
The Cleveland Cavaliers outscored the NBA D-League Select team 5-2 in the final two minutes of the game to earn the 88-82 victory in game two at COX Pavilion on the campus of University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
The Cavs had six players in double-figures led by J.J. Hickson with 18 points and Pooh Jeter with 17. The NBA D-League Select team had four players in double-figures led by Russell Robinson (Maine Red Claws) who tallied a game high 20 points and Mark Tyndale (Iowa Energy) who tallied 17 points off the bench.
The game featured 17 lead changes and was tied 13 times with the NBA D-League Select owning the lead for much of the game. The NBA D-League Select owned a seven point early in the game, the Cavs largest lead of six came at the end of the game.
In a balanced first-half, the NBA D-League Select team held a one-point advantage over the Cavs 45-44 heading into halftime. The NBA D-League's opening half effort was led by Larry Owens (Tulsa 66ers) with 11 points while Curtis Withers (Dakota Wizards) and Robinson chipped in nine apiece.
Hickson registered 12 points for the Cavs while Maciej Lampe added 10 points. Both teams shot over 60 percent in the opening half, the Cavs shooting 66.7 percent (18-27) while the NBA D-League Select shot 60.7 percent. There were 10 lead changes and five ties in the first 20 minutes of action.
The NBA D-League Select team outscored the Cavs by three in the third taking a four-point lead heading into the final period of play however it wasn't enough as the Cavs outscored the NBA D-League 10 in the final period to earn the victory.
D-League Select player Jared Newson (Sioux Falls Skyforce) played four minutes in the opening quarter before leaving the game with a mild left ankle sprain, he did not return.
