Sam Young sank a three-point shot at the buzzer to seal the 67-64 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks Tuesday. Memphis led by six with 34 seconds left before the Bucks stormed back and tied the game at 64 on a pair of three-point baskets, both made by Larry Sanders, the second coming with just 0.7 seconds left in the game.
Three Memphis Grizzlies scored in double figures on the night, Young leading the way with 15 points, Hasheem Thabeet with 12 and O.J. Mayo with 11. Sanders put up a game high 22 points for the Bucks.
The Milwaukee Bucks held an eight point lead at the end of the first quarter, 17-9 as they held the Memphis Grizzlies scoreless in the final 3:32 of the opening stanza. Deron Washington led all scorers in the period scoring nine points on 3-4 from the field. The Bucks were held to just 10 percent from the field (1-0), most of their points coming from the charity stripe (7-8).
The Grizzlies ended their scoring drought as Thabeet connected on a pair of three throws in the first minute of the second quarter and went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 17 all. The Bucks were held scoreless in the period until the 7:22 mark when Ricky Franklin connected on a jump-shot. The second quarter belonged to the Grizzles as they outscored the Bucks 23-7 to take a commanding eight point lead into the half.
Milwaukee owned the third quarter outscoring the Grizzlies by eight to tie the game up at 43 points apiece. Sanders led the Bucks third quarter effort with six points.
