MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis forward Brian Cardinal sprained his left knee in the second quarter of the Grizzlies' playoff game against Phoenix on Sunday night.

A team spokeswoman said Cardinal would not return.

The 6-foot-8 Cardinal went down under the Grizzlies' basket with 5:35 left in the second quarter and immediately went to the locker room.

His loss left the usually deep Grizzlies a bit short-handed because coach Mike Fratello decided before the game not to play Bonzi Wells and didn't even let him sit on the bench.
