SIMULATION: WASHINGTON 4, CHICAGO 2
Take a season's worth of Wizards and Bulls stats, feed them into a computer, play the series 100 times, and what do you get? An upset.
No player on either the Bulls' or Wizards' postseason roster has ever appeared in a playoff game for his current team. This will be the first such NBA postseason series since 1947, when it happened for a good reason: then known as the Basketball Association of America, that was the league's first season!
Washington bounced back from trailing 2-0 in the series and most of Game 6 to oust the Bulls 94-91. Next: The Heat, starting Sunday (ABC, 3:30 ET) in Miami.
Can their defense improve enough to get stops in the postseason? They must get production out of the frontline. Their "Big 3" of Arenas, Hughes and Jamison might be the best in the NBA on offense. Arenas was three months old the last time the Wizards won a playoff series. Not much postseason experience here.
Youthful exuberance with college kids from winning programs, plus selected veterans who bought into tough defensive philosophy. They are No. 1 in FG% defense because they allow few transition layups or open looks in halfcourt. Gordon and Hinrich can make game-winning shots. They will miss Eddy Curry and Luol Deng.
