Western Conference First Round Clippers lead, 2-1
DENVER (Ticker) -- After their performances in Game Three,
the
Los Angeles Clippers and
Denver Nuggets have to clean up
their acts.
The Clippers try to bounce back from an ugly loss and take a 3-1
lead on the Nuggets on Saturday when the teams continue their
best-of-seven first-round series.
After losing the first two games in Los Angeles, Denver
rebounded to post a 94-87 triumph on Thursday.
Carmelo Anthony
scored 24 points but shot just 6-of-17 from the field and
12-of-19 from the line.
Anthony's efforts epitomized a game in which the teams combined
for 68 fouls, 39 turnovers and 21 missed free throws.
Denver shot just 38 percent (31-of-82) and missed all 11 of its
3-pointers. Los Angeles shot 40 percent (29-of-72) and
committed a season-high 25 turnovers.
Corey Maggette scored 23 points and
Sam Cassell contributed 20
for the sixth-seeded Clippers, who received only 21 points from
their starting frontcourt - including 17 from
Elton Brand - on
combined 7-of-24 shooting.
Andre Miller scored 14 points,
Earl Boykins and
Greg Buckner 13
apiece and
Marcus Camby 12 and 14 boards for the third-seeded
Nuggets, who had lost six straight games overall, in addition to
five straight to the Clippers.
The series shifts to Los Angeles for Game Five on Monday.
