ATLANTA (AP) -- Dwight Howard had 15 points and seven rebounds and DeShawn Stevenson added 15 points and six rebounds to lead the Orlando Magic to a 104-93 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night in the preseason opener for both teams.

Grant Hill and Steve Francis each had 12 points for the Magic.

Hill, coming off a relatively healthy 2004-05 season in which he averaged 19.7 points in 67 games, played 23 minutes.

Joe Johnson and Zaza Pachulia had 18 points each for the Hawks. Johnson had seven rebounds and seven assists in his first appearance in front of the home crowd. It was his signing over the summer that led to the buying out of Steve Belkin by the other owners. Belkin opposed Johnson's sign-and-trade deal from Phoenix.

Josh Smith, last year's slam dunk champion, scored 13 points for the Hawks, while Marvin Williams, the second overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft, scored 12 points. He was called for five personal fouls in 25 minutes.

The Hawks cut Orlando's lead to 89-87 with just under six minutes remaining, but pulled away behind seven points from Hedo Turkoglu.
