SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Tracy McGrady scored 21 points and the
Houston Rockets held off a fourth-quarter rally by San Antonio on
Saturday night to win 95-87 and keep the defending champion Spurs
winless in the preseason.
McGrady scored all of his points in the first half. He left the
game late in the second quarter after taking a knee to the
midsection, but the team said he was not hurt.
Tim Duncan had 19 points for San Antonio, which is 0-4 in the
preseason and Marks scored 12.
Houston took a 73-64 lead on Swift's layup early in the fourth
quarter before the Spurs made a run. Manu Ginobili hit a 3-pointer
and then fed Sean Marks for a pair of dunks to narrow the Rockets'
lead to 75-73 with 8:50 left.
But rookie Luther Head made two 3-pointers and Derek Anderson
added two free throws to rebuild Houston's lead to 83-75 with six
The Spurs took a 15-8 lead in the first quarter, but Houston
went on a 14-5 run capped by a dunk by Swift to take a 22-20 lead.
Marks made a 12-footer and Nick Van Exel hit a free throw to
make it 23-22 Spurs, but the Rockets took the lead for good on a
jumper by Jon Barry in the final minute of the first period.
