Wade brings the Heat, scores 33 in win over Knicks

MIAMI (AP) -- The Miami Heat started scoring early and had a rout by halftime.

Dwyane Wade scored 33 points to lead the Heat to a 107-94 victory over the New York Knicks on Monday night, ending a two-game losing streak.

"There were a lot of good things tonight," Miami coach Stan Van Gundy said. "More than anything I really liked our energy and our intensity."

The Heat never trailed after Wade's basket put them ahead 10-8 with 8:24 remaining in the first quarter.

"We came out early, hard from the start," Wade said. "We didn't want to give a team any confidence in our building. I think it all starts with me. So I tried to come out tonight and attack. Hopefully my guys followed and it did."

Wade was 15-for-18 from the free-throw line, thanks to his drives to the basket.

James Posey had 19 points -- including five 3-pointers -- and Jason Williams added 18 to help Miami beat New York for the fifth straight time. Alonzo Mourning tied a franchise record with nine blocks, matching the mark he achieved five previous times.

Mourning's final block of the game, a rejection of rookie Channing Frye's dunk attempt, ended with Posey hitting his fifth 3-pointer to give the Heat its biggest lead of the game 82-53 with 3:03 remaining in the third quarter.

"Either it's going to be a great dunk or a great block," Mourning said. "I think statistics work in my favor. I don't like getting dunked on."

Frye, who finished with 12 points, said he won't change his approach against shot-blocking centers such as Mourning.

"Would you like to go for a layup and get it blocked?" Frye said. "If I had to do it over again I would do it. If I'm going to be in there and I'm going to go aggressive."

Stephon Marbury scored 19 points for the Knicks, who have lost four of their last six.

"At the beginning of the game, the first four or five plays they just got to the front of the rim with nobody helping," Knicks coach Larry Brown said. "That was a pretty good indicator of how it went."

Posey had three 3s in the second quarter to help the Heat take a 65-39 halftime lead.

"We just want to get good ball movement and take open shots with confidence," Posey said. "Tonight was one of those nights. I was open a lot and was able to hit some shots."

New York closed the game with a 19-8 run over the final 6:40 to avoid a bigger lopsided result.

"We're not one of the elite teams, we know that," Marbury said. "But it's early, though. That's the best thing about the NBA. It's not a sprint but a marathon. We just have to continue to get better."
