Bosh, James lead Raptors past injury-riddled Bobcats

TORONTO (AP) -- Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell ripped into his players at halftime after they fell behind to an injury-ravaged team that played a double overtime game the night before.

    Whatever he said, worked.

Chris Bosh had 29 points and 10 rebounds and Mike James added 24 points as Toronto rallied for a 95-86 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night.

The Raptors seemed to take the undermanned Bobcats lightly as they trailed by 12 points at halftime. Fans booed the Raptors in the final seconds of the half as Charlotte finished the second quarter on a 10-0 run that included four layups.

"The fans were booing us and we understood why," Mitchell said. "It's not important what I said or how I said it. It's just the fact our guys came out and played better and did what we needed to do to win the game."

Morris Peterson had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Raptors, who have won six of eight.

Bosh said Mitchell ripped them for their slow start -- a trend this season.

"He had his choice words," Bosh said. "They seemed like they wanted the game more than we did, so we had to come out in the second half with intensity."

Jumaine Jones had 17 points for the Bobcats, who were missing Emeka Okafor (sprained ankle), Kareem Rush (sprained ankle), Sean May (sore right knee) and Melvin Ely (sprained ankle).

Point guard Brevin Knight didn't play in the second half because of back spasms.

Charlotte beat Houston in double overtime on Tuesday, and the Bobcats seemed to tire in the final minutes as Toronto finished the game on a 11-1 run.

"We don't have any excuses. We just didn't get it done at winning time," Charlotte coach Bernie Bickerstaff said.

James started the run with two free throws, giving Toronto the lead for good with 2:12 left

Peterson followed with a key 3-pointer that gave Toronto an 89-85 lead with 1:25 remaining.

After Bosh made two free throws, James had a steal and a fastbreak layup to make it 93-85 with 58 seconds left.

Toronto outscored Charlotte 32-23 in the fourth quarter.

"It's real tough. We have been playing short-handed for a while, but we still have come up with a couple of victories, so that's no excuse," Jones said. "We just didn't make plays down the stretch."

The Raptors went on a season-high five-game winning streak before losing two in a row....

    Game notes

The Bobcats have lost five of six. ... Okafor, the reigning NBA rookie of the year, had to be helped from the floor in the second overtime after scoring 21 points Tuesday night. Okafor, who returned Tuesday after an eight-game absence with a sprained ankle, reinjured himself when he stepped on someone's foot and was on crutches after the game.
