Celtics' Pierce bruises left hip, leaves in third quarter

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- Larry Hughes and Zydrunas Ilgauskas each scored 14 points and Damon Jones added 12 to help the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 91-82 preseason victory over the Boston Celtics on Friday night.

Sasha Pavlovic added 10 points for Cleveland (1-1), which never trailed after taking the lead with 4:45 left in the second quarter. Anderson Varejao had six points and 11 rebounds.

Wally Szczerbiak led the Celtics (1-2) with 21 points, 13 in the first quarter. He finished 7-of-8 from the field with two 3-pointers and was 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

Sebastian Telfair added 16 points for Boston, including a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line. Ryan Gomes had 12 points and three steals.

Celtics star Paul Pierce finished with two points, leaving the game with 7 minutes to play in the third quarter with a bruised left hip.

The Cavaliers were without LeBron James, who was given the night off by coach Mike Brown.

Keyed by Szczerbiak, the Celtics led 27-23 after one quarter but went cold in the second, managing just 10 points on 5-of-19 shooting.

Cleveland pulled even at 35 with 5:22 to go in the second quarter on a layup by Donyell Marshall. Hughes followed with a foul shot and 3-pointer for a four-point lead and the Cavaliers didn't trail the rest of the way, leading by as many as 16 points late in the fourth quarter.
