2005 Draft Picks - Boston Celtics

118(18)Gerald GreenSGGulf Shores Academy (TX)
The second big steal in the draft. With a name like Green, Danny Ainge can't go wrong. In 1998, the Celtics had Paul Pierce inexplicably drop to them. Has lightning struck twice? Green is one of the two or three most athletic players in the draft. He can stroke it. He has superstar potential. It may take a little while, but Green has the chance to be awesome. Pair him with Al Jefferson and other players like Delonte West and Tony Allen and, over the course of the last two years, Ainge has built a nice young core. An awesome pick for Boston.

220(50)Ryan GomesSFProvidence
I've been hard on Danny Ainge in the past, but I think they've hit another home run in this draft. Green was a steal at No. 18 and Gomes is a steal at No. 50. The Celtics were seriously considering him at No. 18 and so were the Pistons at No. 26. He reminds me of a bigger, better shooting Corliss Williamson. He isn't the best athlete, but he knows how to play and was very productive in college. He could make the Celtics' roster next season and be pretty productive.

223(53)Orien GreenePGLa Lafayette
It's not easy getting two guys named Green/Greene in the same draft, even if your mascot is a leprechaun. Greene is a big, physical point guard who knows how to get to the basket. He needs to work on his perimeter skills. Given the plethora of draft picks in Boston's training camp, it's hard to see how he will make the roster, however.
