| 2005 Draft Picks - Detroit Pistons |
| RD | PK(OVR) | NAME | POS | SCHOOL/COUNTRY |
| 1 | 26(26) | Jason Maxiell | PF | Cincinnati |
Maxiell is a mini-Ben Wallace, the strongest and most aggressive big man in the draft. He's undersized, but next to Pistons' front line, he'll be just fine thanks to a 7-foot-3 wingspan and big-time hops. He has what Joe Dumars looks for in a Piston, which is a tough, aggressive, blue-collar approach to the game.
|
| 2 | 26(56) | Amir Johnson | PF | Westchester HS (CA) |
Long, athletic high school player had the potential to be a lottery pick if he had stayed in school a year or two longer. Unfortunately, grades kept him out of college and he'll struggle to find a foothold with the Pistons. Might develop in the NBDL.
|
| 2 | 30(60) | Alex Acker | G | Pepperdine |
Acker is a really versatile player who can play three positions. He's a good shooter and athlete. A lot of surprises on guys who didn't get drafted. Randolph Morris, Matt Walsh, Kennedy Winston, Dwayne Jones, Sean Banks, John Gilchrist, Eddie Basden, Will Bynum, Jawad Williams, Angelo Gigli and Kelenna Azubuike are among the guys who surprisingly didn't get drafted.
