Bostjan Nachbar

SMALL FORWARD | (6-8, 220) | SLOVENIA

Notes: Bostjan Nachbar is no stranger to big-time basketball, helping Benetton reach the 2002 European Final Four. Nachbar averaged just under 13 points in the regular season and 10.3 during the playoffs. He scored 17 in Benetton's semifinal loss to Kinder Bologna.

Has played in Italy for past four seasons after growing up in Maribor, Slovenia and playing for several national teams. Began professional career with Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia) during the 1997-98 season and then played in hometown Maribor during 1998-99 season after signing with KK Maribor. His international experience began with Olimpija Ljubljana, which won the 1997-98 Slovenian National Championship. Was also part of Pallacanestro Treviso's championship in the 2001 Italian Super Cup.

A member of the Slovenian National Team, Nachbar played in the 1999 and 2000 Slovenian All Star Games. Nachbar was also selected for his country's World Team, which played at the 1999 and 2000 Nike Hoop Summit. A member of the Under-20 Slovenian National Team, which won the gold medal at the 2000 Under-20 European Championship.

Positives: Nachbar loves to play on the break, has excellent ball-handing skills and a dangerous mid-range jumper. Is a decent athlete who knows how to play the game. Scouts say that he reminds them of a bigger version of Hidayet Turkoglu.

Negatives: Defensively, Nachbar will struggle playing the quicker two-guards in the league. He doesn't have great lateral quickness. Seemed to hit the wall mid-season in Italy (his first full season at the top level) and his play suffered. Like a lot of Europeans, he needs to hit the weight room and step up his defensive effort.

Summary: After scouting Nachbar all week at practice in Treviso and during the Euroleague Final Four, several teams are now projecting that he could move all the way up into the late lottery. That's a meteoric rise for a guy who couldn't sneak into the first round last year.
