Southern Conference to cut costs
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference is feeling the effects of the economic downturn.
The league plans to reduce the number of schools participating in several Southern Conference tournaments; cut baseball series from three days to two; and will not stage preseason gatherings in football and men's basketball next season.
Southern Conference commissioner John Iamarino estimated the measures would save about $120,000 in the 2009-10 academic year.
