'Canes blast into Coral Gable title game
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Gaby Sanchez drove in six runs to lead Miami past NC State 19-5 and into the regional final.
Miami (46-11) fell behind 4-0 in the first but rallied to score 11 runs over the next three innings. The Hurricanes rattled North Carolina State ace Michael Rogers for a career-high 11 earned runs on 12 hits in just 3 2/3 innings.
Miami will now face Florida Atlantic.
Florida Atlantic 10, North Carolina State 2
Surprise starter Will Mann pitched an eight-hitter and Florida Atlantic eliminated North Carolina State from the NCAA Tournament.
With its second win of the day, No. 3 seeded Florida Atlantic (47-16) advanced to Sunday's regional championship against top-seeded and host Miami.
Florida Atlantic coach Kevin Cooney's gamble succeeded when he held out ace Randy Beam in favor of Mann, who had appeared in just 11 games all season. Mann (5-0) responded, allowing just one earned run and struck out nine in his first career complete game.
Florida Atlantic 14, St. Bonaventure 2
Rusty Brown hit two homers and drove in six runs, and Florida Atlantic eliminated St. Bonaventure from the Coral Gables regional with a 14-2 win.
Florida Atlantic (46-16) jumped all over starter Michael Proctor (5-3), scoring seven runs on six hits in two innings.
Matt O'Brien (11-3) allowed four hits and an earned run in five innings.
St. Bonaventure (29-22) was outscored 20-5 and allowed three homers in losses to Miami and Florida Atlantic.
