Notes: Jr. LHP Brian Bogusevic struck out eight batters Friday in a three-hit shutout, reducing his ERA to 0.39. He still isn't playing the field because of the hamstring tweak. Fr. 3B Brad Emaus hit a sixth-inning grand slam Sunday.

Notes: The Longhorns went 23.1 IP without allowing a run during one stretch during the week, including seven scoreless innings from Soph. RHPs Randy Boone and Kyle McCulloch. Sr. SS Seth Johnston had three multi-hit games on the week, bringing his total to nine for the year. Augie Garrido won his 1,500th game Sunday.

Notes: Sr. LHP Lane Mestepey became the school's all-time innings leader (401.1) Friday, but took a tough loss as Houston Jr. LHP Matt Farrington (6 IP, 4 H, R) was better. "Great pitching beats good hitting," LSU coach Smoke Laval said. "It was a matter of breaks. We had 10 strikeouts (at the plate) and some of our hitters took the night off." Sr. OF Ryan Patterson keyed the DH G1 win Sunday with four hits and a career-best four runs before adding a homer and three RBI in G2.

Sr. LHP Scott Sarver made his first Sunday start since the opening weekend (because of rain) and threw seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits while notching seven strikeouts. Jr. LHP Ryan Schreppel's scoreless innings streak was snapped Friday in the loss. UNLV scored twice in the ninth Friday off Soph. closer Vinnie Pestano. Sr. DH Felipe Garica busted a 1-for-18 slump with a 4-for-5 game Friday.

Notes: It's nice to have Sr. 3B Steve Pearce back. He went 8-for-13 with three homers and 10 RBI in the series. Two of the HRs were grand slams, including one that proved to be the difference Sunday. Sr. OF Brendan Winn and Soph. DH Jon Williard each hit two homers on the weekend, each with one on the six-homer barrage Saturday. Jr. SS Steve Tolleson's eight-game hit streak ended Sunday.

Notes: The Tar Heels are still perfect, and averaging five runs per game minus a 17-run performance two weeks back. They needed a ninth-inning sacrifice fly from Jr. 2B Greg Magnum to escape Saturday. Soph. LHP Andrew Miller (3-0, 0.48) earned wins on Wednesday and Sunday, allowing his first earned run of the year Sunday when he carried a no-hitter into the sixth and struck out eight batters over six innings. Soph. RHP Daniel Bard yielded two runs on one hit over seven innings Friday. Seven Tar Heels recorded hits Sunday, including two from Fr. 1B Chad Flack, who launched his first homer as part of a 5-for-9 week.

LHP Everett Teaford limited UGa. to a run on three hits over seven innings Saturday. Jr. C Jason Jacobs hit a two-run homer to win Tuesday's contest.

Jr. RHP Bryan Ball threw 6.2 scoreless innings Saturday, the longest outing by a Gators starter this year. He has allowed one earned run in 18.2 IP. Jr. OF Stephen Barton hit a two-run double in the sixth inning Friday to help UF overcome a 3-2 deficit.

Jr. 3B Ryan Braun scored three runs and drove home four with a grand slam Friday. He and So. 1B Danny Valencia each drilled three-run bombs Sunday, when they joined Soph. OF Jon Jay and Fr. 2B Walter Diaz with four-hit games. Jay has a hit in 26 of his last 27 games.

Notes: The Wildcats lose a home series in the stunner of the week. Illness took games from Jr. RHP John Meloan, Sr. OF Jeff Van Houten and Fr. Of Kenny Williams Jr., while an injury shelved Fr. 2B Bryan Kervin. Kervin's replacement, Fr. Brett Scyphers, batted .545 in the series. Jr. 1B Jordan Brown hit two homers and drove in eight runs in the series, including three on Sunday, when Arizona gunned down the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning. UCR's Haley Winter came within one out of a shutout Saturday, allowing a two-out tally in the ninth and five total hits.

Notes: Jr. LHP Mark Romanczuk pitched the first complete-game shutout of his career Friday, allowing four hits while recording 12 strikeouts. Jr. 1B John Mayberry Jr. beat out an inning-ending double play for an RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth Saturday. Jr. SS Chris Minaker went 4-for-4 Friday and collected seven hits in the series.

Last week: 3-1. Overall: 10-2, 0-0 in WAC. (3-1 vs. Top 25).
Notes: As the slashes imply, Fr. LHP/DH/OF/1B Joe Savery did it all (OK, most of it) over the weekend. He allowed four hits over seven innings Friday while batting .643 in four games to take over the team lead with a .417 average. Jr. RHP Josh Geer held Nebraska to one run over 6.2 IP Sunday, but the Huskers hit two homers (including a three-run jack from Jr. 3B Alex Gordon) off previously untouchable closer Bryce Cox for a five-run rally in the eighth and final inning. Rain scuttled the tournament schedule, so Rice never played New Mexico.

Jr. C Brian Hernandez stroked a two-run double with two outs in the fifth that made the difference Friday.

LHP Cory VanAllen was touched for six earned runs in four innings Saturday after allowing two earned runs over his previous 31.2 IP. Jr. 1B Kyle Reynolds batted .500-2-8 in the series, with a two-run fifth-inning home run Sunday before a two-run double in the 10th.

OF Danny Payne is quite the leadoff man, having scored 18 runs in nine games. Jr. RHP Jason Neighborgall might be the story of the year in college baseball, holding Rutgers to three hits and two walks over six innings Friday. He has walked six batters in 17 innings after battling horrendous control difficulties last season.

Both hits were doubles. Jr. LHP Barrett Browning took a no-no of his own into the fifth (7 IP, 4 H, ER). Sr. Gibbs Chapman hit two homers, including a grand slam on Friday.

LHP James Gilbert earned the win with 5.2 innings of scoreless relief. Sr. LHP Trey Holloway threw 5.1 scoreless IP over two appearances Friday and Sunday to earn two wins. Sr. 2B Scott Bridges missed the last two games after getting hit on the hand Friday. It's not broken, and he's expected to play this week.

Notes: The Cougars have won seven consecutive games. The pitching staff hasn't allowed a run in 21.2 IP and has a 3.70 ERA. RHP Nick Chigges carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against LeMoyne, recording a career-high 12 strikeouts. Brett Anderson hit .571 in the two games to raise his team-best average to .480.

Notes: The Ragin Cajuns are scoring more than eight runs per game despite hitting just six home runs. Maybe they should be the Blazin' Cajuns as they're 23-for-28 in steals and have a 2.30 team ERA, led by Austin Faught (2-0, 0.64) and Kevin Ardoin (3-0, 0.86 with a 23-3 strikeout-walk ratio in 21 innings).

Jr. OF Jacoby Ellsbury gave the team the lead with a leadoff homer in the seventh inning Saturday and went 5-for-12 with two triples and two steals in the series. Soph. LHP Kevin Gunderson struck out five batters in 4.2 IP while notching saves on Friday and Sunday.

Notes: Soph. LHP Brad Furnish struck out a career-high eight batters Friday as he allowed one run on two hits in seven innings. Fr. RHP Sam Demel allowed three runs (two earned) and struck out seven in seven innings Saturday, when the lead swelled to 11-3 before a late comeback attempt by Dallas Baptist. Soph. 2B Shelby Ford went 3-for-3 with three steals Friday after going 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBI on Tuesday. Jr. RHP Lance Broadway did not pitch against Dallas Baptist after transferring from there this year.

Notes: Ouch, Tiger bites hurt. Errors allow the winning run to score on both Friday and Saturday as the Anteaters totaled four Es in each game. Friday featured two eighth-inning miscues, while Irvine rallied from a 4-2 deficit to tie Saturday's game before making a bases-loaded throwing error by second baseman Brett Dalton in the bottom of the ninth to drop that one. Clemson piled up 10 runs in the first three innings Sunday to complete the sweep.

UW blew a 4-2 lead against Evansville on Sunday as the Purple Aces scored three times in the sixth. Soph. RHP Kyle Parker allowed five runs in four innings Friday against A&M.

Jr. closer Ryan Doherty coughed up a two-run ninth-inning lead in the second game Friday, hitting two batters with the bases loaded. Soph. C Sean Gaston went 4-for-6 in that one, but Dayton pulled it out with five in the 11th. ND led three times Sunday in a game that featured scoring in six straight half-innings and four RBI from Jr. SS Greg Lopez.

Kent State scored eight times in the fourth inning Sunday, eating through three Throp pitchers. Jr. OF Daniel Carte hit two home runs and drove in four runs in the loss to Kent State.
