Notes: Texas led 8-2 Saturday before coughing up a fiver in the seventh inning. Sr. SS Seth Johnston increased his hit streak to 11 games; Soph. OF Carson Kainer has hit in five straight. Jr. OF Calvin Beamon moved to the leadoff spot this weekend, batting .400 with three walks. Soph. RHP Randy Boone struck out seven over seven innings Friday.

2. Cal State Fullerton
Last week: 1-2. Overall: 17-6, 0-0 in Big West. (6-3 vs. Top 25).
Notes: Long Beach State out-pitched Fullerton in the first series loss for the Titans since losing a nonconference series to the Dirtbags a year ago. Fullerton batted .144 in the series. Sr. 3B Ronnie Prettyman drove in the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth Friday, when Soph. SS Blake Davis collected three hits. Jr. LHP Ricky Romero (7.2 IP, 3 R) and Fr. RHP Wes Roemer (5.2 IP, 3 R in first start) took tough losses. Jr. 2B Justin Turner's 15-game hit streak ended Saturday.

3. Georgia Tech
Last week: 2-2. Overall: 21-4, 11-1 in ACC. (2-1 vs. Top 25).
Notes: Georgia Tech's 25-game ACC win streak ended Friday night in its worst defeat since a 22-3 drubbing from Memphis State in 1972. Still, GT battled back to win the series and push coach Danny Hall past predecessor and current Miami coach Jim Morris into first place with 505 wins at the school. Fr. DH/RHP Matt Wieters hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth Sunday, then recorded the final three outs for his second save. Wieters went 5-for-5 the previous day, when Jr. OF Steven Blackwood hit a grand slam and drove home seven runs. Jr. SS Tyler Greene saw his 18-game hit streak snapped Sunday. Jr. RHP Jason Neighborgall imploded in the first inning Friday (0.1 IP, 0 H, 7 ER, 6 BB, K, 3 WP, HBP), with shades of 2004.

Notes: Jr. LHP Brian Bogusevic struck out 10 batters over seven innings to help Tulane avoid a sweep, but his hamstring troubles kept him from hitting for the second straight week. Fr. 3B Brad Emaus tallied four hits in the win, and went 2-for-3 with a home run Friday. Starters Micah Owings (6.1 IP, 5 ER) and Brandon Gomes (5.1 IP, 6 ER) proved ineffective.

Notes: Auburn sent LSU to its first regular-season series loss in 12 tries, and its first SEC series loss in seven tries. Sr. CF Ryan Patterson stayed ablaze with two more homers and a .471 average on the week to bring his season totals to .432-11-23. Auburn scored the last six runs Sunday, including a 1-3-1 spread over the final three innings to usurp the series. Tyler Johnstone had three hits and three RBI in that one, including a two-run single off Justin Meier in the eighth inning.

Notes: Jr. OF Brian Pettway extended his hit streak to 24 games, breaking the school record of 21. He hit two homers and drew four intentional walks in the series, three IBBs coming Saturday. He's hitting .452-10-30 on the year. Jr. 1B Stephen Head's two homers and four RBI moved him into seventh place on both Ole Miss career lists.

Notes: Sr. RHP Connor Falkenbach appeared in all four games on the week and didn't allow an earned run in 8.1 IP against South Carolina. He allowed two hits in five shutout innings Sunday to clinch the series and UF's first series win against South Carolina since 1999. Soph. 2B Adam Davis delivered two doubles and three RBI Saturday after driving in seven runs against UCF. Sr. CF Jeff Corsaletti totaled 10 hits, seven runs and six RBIs on the week, with five, three and four of those figures coming in the UCF drubbing.

Notes: Jr. RHP Cesar Carrillo (7 IP, 6 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K) snapped Tech's 25-game ACC win streak Friday; if only he could have pitched the next two games as well. (Carrillo's 18-0 career record ties him with Jerry Brust for the most wins without a loss to start a Miami career.) Fr. C Alex Garabedian collected three hits and four RBI Friday, when eight first-inning walks and a hit-by-pitch led to nine runs. Soph. RHP Ricky Orta took his first loss as a starter Saturday, allowing seven runs in 4.1 IP.

Notes: The Razorbacks take their first series loss of the year. Jr. RHP Charley Boyce came out of the bullpen twice, allowing four runs in the ninth Friday to take a loss, then grabbing a win Sunday with 4.2 IP of two-hit relief. A week after dominating South Carolina, Fr. LHP Nick Schmidt (7 IP, 4 H, ER) was dominant again on Friday, but Fr. LHP Shaun Siebert (IP, 5 H, 6 R, 3 ER) struggled mightily. Sr. CF Casey Rowlett lost his hit streak at 22 games.

Notes: Jr. RHP John Meloan tied his career-high with 12 strikeouts Thursday as Arizona fanned 18 as a team and scored eight runs off Huskies ace Tim Lincecum. Jr. OF Chris Frye collected three hits and three runs Thursday, while Jr. OF Trevor Crowe drove in three. Sr. OF Jeff Van Houten ended Friday's game with a 12th-inning home run. Arizona struggled on the mound for the third straight week in a series finale, allowing 46 total runs in that span.

11. North Carolina
Last week: 5-0. Overall: 20-5, 5-2 in ACC. (1-0 vs. Top 25).
Notes: Jr. OF Mike Daniel batted .524-2-6 with six runs scored on the week to help UNC improve to 18-0 at home. Fr. SS Josh Horton added eight hits on the week, including his first career homer Friday. The pitching staff lowered its ERA to 1.69 behind seven hitless innings from Fr. RHP Andy Gale on Tuesday before aces Andrew Miller and Daniel Bard allowed one run each while recording eight and seven strikeouts respectively.

Notes: Stanford looks a bit wobbly, but like a Weeble, doesn't fall down. Jr. RHP Jeff Gilmore hit five batters Sunday though he was strong otherwise (8.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R) and enjoyed six first-inning runs of support. Ethan Katz held Stanford scoreless for eight innings Saturday, and though the Cardinal managed a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth, it's hard to win with just three hits.

Notes: Rice batted .391 with 13 home runs on the week, including seven in Saturday's win. Things would look even nicer had the bullpen been able to prevent Nevada's seven runs over the final two innings of Sunday's game, one the Owls led 5-0. Fr. C Danny Lehmann hit two homers Saturday. Soph. 2B Josh Rodriguez hit two homers Friday, and one each on Tuesday and Saturday.

14. South Carolina

Notes: South Carolina dropped its second straight conference series after opening the year 16-1. Sr. RHPs Aaron Rawl (7 IP, 9 K) and Jason Fletcher combined Friday on the first home shutout of Florida since 1999. That's the same year Florida last beat South Carolina in a series. Sr. RHP Zac McCamie struck out nine Saturday but took his first lost as a Gamecock in allowing four runs in 5.2 IP. He allowed four of the team's season-high eight walks.

Notes: It's hard to figure out this Baylor club, as it struggles a week after sweeping Texas. OSU clinched the series with a Steve Ptak sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth Sunday, the first Sunday loss for Baylor in 2005. Jr. RHP Mark McCormick (6.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER 4 BB, 4 K) improved to 3-1 Saturday behind a home run from C Josh Ford that bounced off OSU's softball stadium. Ford has reached base in 21 straight games.

Notes: A&M dropped its second straight conference road series. OU's Steven Guerra (CG, 4 H) out-dueled Kyle Marlatt (7 IP, 2 ER) in the first game of Friday's doubleheader. Fr. RHP Jordan Chambless took his first loss of the year in the second game, walking two batters and hitting another to allow two earned runs without yielding a hit. Andrew Baldwin's RBI single followed by a two-run homer from Coby Mavroulis helped A&M earn a victory after rallying for two runs in the ninth inning to force extras.

Notes: Soph. CF Shane Robinson broke J.D. Drew's school record Friday with a slow roller to shortstop for a hit in his 35th straight game, then extended the mark to 37 games. Soph. OF Gibbs Chapman won the first game with a two-run ninth-inning homer. DH Brant Peacher went 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in the first game Saturday. FSU rallied from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game, then scored twice in the ninth inning of game two, but still lost to Duke for the first time in 14 games and second time in 28 games.

Notes: Jr. CF Jacoby Ellsbury tallied two home runs, two doubles, six RBI and two steals in a doubleheader sweep Friday. The Beavers didn't allow an earned run in the sweep, highlighted by a four-hit, 12-strikeout complete game from Soph. RHP Dallas Buck in the opener. The team ERA jumped from 2.30 to 3.02 with the 17 earned runs allowed Thursday, but dipped back to 2.75 after the DH sweep.

Notes: Charleston just keeps hitting and hitting and hitting with 338 hits in 24 games. It could go hitless for nine straight games and still boast an average of more than 10 hits per contest. OF Brett Gardner went 12-for-17 on the week and is 13 sac bunts shy of tying the NCAA career record of 58. LHP Ryan Edell struck out a career-best 14 batters Friday. RHP Wes Braden struck out eight batters and allowed a run in 6.2 IP Saturday in game one.

Notes: The Huskers lost their 11-game winning streak Saturday but are still off to their best start in 21 years. Lawrence native Curtis Ledbetter drove in three runs, and Brian Duensing carried a shutout into the eighth inning Sunday to clinch the series win. Jr. 3B Alex Gordon totaled four hits, six walks, eight runs and three homers in the series. Two jacks came in a loss in the opener. Fr. Johnny Dorn struck out six over three innings and allowed one hit to earn a save in the second game, nailing down the third straight win for Jr. Zack Kroenke.

Notes: MSU has won seven of its last eight series against Arkansas, including the last five in Fayetteville. Sr. RHP Todd Doolittle allowed one earned run over eight innings Saturday to clinch the series. So. 2B Jeffrey Rea collected eight hits and a team-best five RBI against Arkansas while Jr. CF Joseph Hunter extended his hit streak to 17 games.

Notes: Long Beach State earned its first series win against a top-ranked team since beating Fullerton in 1996 by holding the Titans, who entered with a .355 average, to a .144 clip. A week after out-flanking Wichita State's Mike Pelfrey, Jr. LHP Cesar Ramos (9 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 8 K) beats Ricky Romero. Soph. RHP Jared Hughes (9 IP, 4 H, ER, 0 BB, 5 K) pitched to one over the minimum for the final eight innings Saturday. Jr. SS Troy Tulowitzki returned a week early from his broken left hamate bone with one hit — an RBI double Thursday — in 12 at-bats.

Notes: Auburn battled back from 5-1 deficits on Wednesday and Sunday to earn wins behind a bullpen that allowed one earned run in 22 innings during the week. 2B Tyler Johnstone drove in three runs Sunday, including a two-run single in the eighth inning to give Auburn the lead. Jr. C Josh Bell hit three home runs and drove in six runs for the week. Jr. RHP Michael Nix threw six scoreless relief innings, allowing two hits and no runs. The Tigers have won four series at LSU since 1993, the best in the SEC.

Notes: The Sun Devils have won 12 of their last 16 games, and 11 of their 13 losses are to ranked teams. Sr. C Tuffy Gosewisch totaled eight hits, six RBI and five runs in the series. Five hits and four RBI came in the blowout Friday. Soph. RHP Pat Bresnehan threw a complete game Friday, allowing only an unearned run. Sr. RHP Jason Urquidez made his first start Saturday since Feb. 18 and allowed a run over eight innings. Sr. LF Jeff Larish hit a sac fly in the 10th to win that one. He also added two homers and has 12 for the year.

Notes: Jr. C Drew Butera hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning of the second game after DH John-Michael Howell hit a game-winning two-run homer in the second game. J-MH went 3-for-4 with a homer in the beat down at Florida.

Notes: Sr. SS Cameron Blair hit his third grand slam of the year and sixth in his career Friday as TTU's rally from an 8-2 deficit fell just short. He drove in six of the Red Raiders' 10 runs in the series, and Jr. 3B Joey Callender drove in two more. Billy Carnline lasted just 1.1 innings Thursday, allowing four runs in his shortest start of the year.

Notes: Same old story for TCU. Jr. RHP Lance Broadway threw six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts Friday and has gone 25.2 IP without allowing an earned run. Austin Adams hit a three-run homer to support him. Soph. LHP Brad Furnish allowed two hits over seven innings Saturday in game one before Fr. RHP Sam Demel allowed five runs in four innings to lose the nightcap.

Last week: 1-3. Overall: 14-8, 1-2 in Pac-10. (4-4 vs. Top 25).
Notes: Closer Paul Koss thwarted a rally Thursday with 2.2 scoreless IP to help USC gain its only win of the week. SS Blake Sharpe registered three hits and three runs. RHP Brett Bannister got bombed Friday (3 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 5 ER). The Trojans are struggling to score runs and losing two starting position players won't help. OF Danny Perales missed the series and possibly some upcoming games with a back injury, and Fr. 1B Lucas Duda was lost for 4-6 weeks with a broken left wrist.
