Wolverines keep nation's top ranking
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Despite having its win streak snapped at 32 games by Big Ten foe Iowa, Michigan held on to the top spot in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25. The Wolverines posted three more conference wins to push their record to 35-2.
The Georgia Bulldogs climbed back in the top 10 for the first time since being ranked 10th in the preseason. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 10 this week, started the season 1-4 but have turned things around at 33-8 overall and 14-1 in the Southeastern Conference.
Oregon State, riding an 18-game win streak moved up to No. 12 after opening the Pac-10 season with a 3-0 record. Northwestern jumped five spots to No. 18 with a perfect weekend to open Big Ten play.
Southern Illinois University at Carbondale enters the poll this week at No. 24 and becomes the second team from the Missouri Valley Conference to be recognized. Creighton is ranked No. 23.
LSU, one of the eight teams at the 2004 Women's College World Series, dropped out of the rankings after losing 2-of-3 games at Mississippi State.
