BOULDER, Colo. -- San Diego State athletic director Mike Bohn was scheduled to visit the University of Colorado this week and was expected to be named its new athletic director, the Daily Camera reported in Sunday editions.

University of Colorado spokeswoman Pauline Hale said Sunday she could not confirm the report but that the search committee was "fairly close" to an announcement.

Bohn, 44, grew up in Boulder, and his mother, Marlyn, lives in town. She told The Associated Press on Sunday only that no contract had been signed.

The CU athletic department faces a $3 million revenue shortfall this year and has been looking to boost attendance for football and basketball games.

In 18 months at San Diego State and five years at the University of Idaho, Bohn dramatically increased football attendance and fund raising at both schools.

When he was hired at San Diego State, the school was going through an NCAA investigation and a state audit of the athletic department.

Meanwhile CU's football program has undergone scrutiny following allegations that sex and alcohol were made available to recruits, and former athletic director Dick Tharp, chancellor Richard Byyny and president Elizabeth Hoffman have announced their resignations in the last year.
