O'Day has been director of development
MISSOULA -- Jim O'Day, director of development for Montana athletics, was named Thursday as the school's new athletic director, the Missoulian reported on its Web site.
O'Day takes over for Don Read, who retires Friday.
O'Day graduated from UM with a degree in journalism and is a former sports writer and newspaper editor. He became director of development in 2000, serving as a fundraising liaison between the UM Foundation and the athletic program.
The other finalists were Tom Collins, a senior associate athletic director at Arizona State; Mike Marlow, associate athletic director at Oregon; Tom Sadler, senior associate athletic director at Hawaii and Calli Sanders, senior associate athletic director at Iowa State in Ames.
