AUSTIN, Texas -- Former Washington coach Patty Fendick-McCain has been hired to lead the Texas women's tennis team, the school announced Tuesday.

A former NCAA champion as a player at Stanford, Fendick-McCain, 40, replaces Jeff Moore, who resigned after 23 years at Texas. Fendick-McCain coached Washington the last eight years, leading the team to the NCAA tournament every season.

Fendick-McCain won NCAA singles titles in 1986 and 1987. During her professional career, she was ranked as high as fourth in doubles and 19th in singles.
