Texas beats UW for berth in women's CWS
AUSTIN, Texas -- Tina Boutelle hit Texas' first grand slam this season and the Longhorns beat Washington 9-1 on Saturday to advance to the Women's College World Series.
It marks the fourth World Series berth for Texas (54-7), which finished third at last year's tournament.
Texas ace Cat Osterman (37-2) allowed two hits and struck out 12. She set a Texas record for wins in a season and increased her single-season strikeout total to 591, which ranks fourth all-time in NCAA history.
Osterman gave up her first run in five postseason games when Ashlyn Watson's single with two outs in the fourth inning scored Aimee Minor, who had reached on an error.
In the sixth inning, Chez Sievers hit a three-run homer and Megan Willis followed with a solo homer one batter later for Texas.
Danielle Lawrie (23-16) lasted 2 2/3 innings for Washington (35-25). She allowed five runs on five hits and struck out three.
