Stanford downs NC State in Austin Regional


AUSTIN -- Jim Rapoport drove in two runs and Greg Reynolds
pitched a complete game Friday to lead Stanford to a 7-2 win over
North Carolina State in the Austin Regional.
The Cardinal (31-25) pounded out 14 hits against seven North
Carolina State (38-22) pitchers.
Stanford hitters jumped on Wolfpack starter Gib Hobson for five
runs on five hits in the first two innings. Stanford scored four in
the second on a four singles and Rapoport's ground-rule double
before Hobson (9-2) was lifted for Jason Duncan.
Stanford led 1-0 when Rapoport drove the ball into deep into the
gap in right center where it bounced off the artificial turf at
Texas' Disch-Falk Field and over the wall to make it 3-0.
Rapoport went 3-for-4 at the plate. Michael Taylor had two RBIs
for Stanford.
Reynolds (7-5) struck out seven and walked two.
