Stanford eliminates NC State to advance
AUSTIN -- Chris Minaker had five hits, two RBIs and scored six runs and Michael Taylor added a two-run homer to lead Stanford to a 17-7 victory over North Carolina State on Sunday in the Austin Regional.
Stanford (33-25) advances to the super regional for the sixth time with the victory.
Stanford led 11-7 before adding six runs in the top of the ninth inning.
The Cardinal had a season-high 24 hits and 17 runs.
Aaron Bates went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Wolfpack. Jon Still went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and scored one run.
Austin Yount (4-0) earned the win for Stanford giving up only two runs on one hit in 3 1-3 innings.
North Carolina State pitcher Chris Engle (1-1) took the loss for the Wolfpack (41-22). He gave up two runs on two hits in 1 1-3 innings.
Minaker was named the tournament's most valuable player.
