UCSB women's lax team put on probation for hazing
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- UC Santa Barbara officials said an investigation has determined that the university's women's lacrosse club team violated anti-hazing regulations and will be punished.
A statement from the university said the investigation followed the recent disclosure on an Internet site of photographs from a 2004 party showing members of the team engaging in activities that appeared to be in violation of UCSB's anti-hazing rules.
UCSB officials said similar hazing occurred during the start of the last two seasons.
Tuesday, the team was placed on probation, which means more violations could lead to permanent suspension of the team.
The team is banned from having any social activities besides games for the next year and will have to perform 30 hours of community service.
