DURHAM, N.C. -- The coach's son and a former walk-on were named captains of the 2007 Duke men's lacrosse team.

Senior Matt Danowski and graduate student Ed Douglas were named captains, coach John Danowski said.

"Being elected a team captain by your peers is one of the highest honors a student-athlete can receive," the coach said. "I have a tremendous amount of confidence that Matt and Ed will represent themselves, their teammates, the lacrosse program and Duke University in the appropriate fashion."

Matt Danowski and Ed Douglas take over as captains in the first season after three players from last year's lacrosse team were charged with raping an exotic dancer at an off-campus team party in March.

Matt Danowski has started every game (41) since arriving in Durham prior to the 2004 season. He has 160 career points on 85 goals and 75 assists and earned first-team All-America, National Attackman of the Year and ACC Player of the Year honors following the 2005 season.

Douglas graduated from Duke in May with a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering. He's pursuing a masters degree in humanities. He is a former walk-on who has seen action in 31 career games for the Blue Devils with career totals of one goal, one assist and 27 ground balls.
