Former coach named Legends of Hockey recipient
Former Augsburg College hockey coach Ed Saugestad has been named the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation's 2007 Legends of Hockey recipient.
Saugestad, whose 503 career wins were second all-time in Division III hockey history, won three NAIA national titles and six Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) titles during his 37-year tenure at the school.
He was named NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1978, '81 and '82 following each of his national championship seasons and was also named MIAC Coach of the Year six times.
In addition to coaching hockey, Saugestad, a 1959 alumnus, also served as Augsburg football coach from 1959-1984, and men's athletic director from 1981-1987.
The Legends of Hockey award will be presented at the Hobey Baker Award Banquet on May 3 in St. Paul, Minn., along with the 2007 Hobey Baker Award, presented to college hockey's top player.
