FORT WORTH, Texas -- The University of Texas at Dallas won the "Final Four" of chess tournaments on Sunday.

UT-Dallas beat the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Duke University and Miami Dade College in a series of weekend games at a Fort Worth hotel that included three rounds of chess with four games per round.

In the end, UT-Dallas' team of four players and two alternates came out on top with 10½ points to claim the Presidents Cup chess trophy, said Jim Stallings, the school's chess director.

UMBC, winner of the past four titles, came in second place with 5 points, followed by 4½ points for third-place by Miami Dade. Duke came in last with 4 points.

"It was very much a team effort, everyone was hitting on all cylinders to produce that kind of score," Stallings said. "I think we're going to have a little celebratory dinner tonight for sure."
