Horns hook Richards as women's golf coach

6/12/2007

AUSTIN -- Martha Richards, who led Vanderbilt to the NCAA
championships four times in seven years, was named the new women's
golf coach at Texas on Tuesday.

Richards, a former Texas assistant, replaces Susan Watkins, who
resigned after 14 seasons. Richards took over the Vanderbilt
program in 2000 and led the Commodores to the NCAA championships in
2002-2004 and 2007.

"We are so fortunate to welcome Martha Richards back to UT," said Chris Plonsky, Texas women's athletic director. "She is considered by many to be one of the finest women's coaches in the
nation."
