Baseball America takes a look at how the Top 25 teams fared in the past week:

1. Arizona State
Last Week: 5-0.
Overall: 17-0, 0-0 in Pac-10. (4-0 vs. Top 25).
Weekend Series: 2-0.
Notes: Arizona State survived a challenging five-game week with aplomb and retained its unblemished record. Troy chased junior RHP Jason Franzblau with six runs in the first Friday, but ASU easily came back, scoring four runs in the second and seven in the fifth; junior SS Marcel Champagnie had four hits to pace ASU's 17-hit attack. Freshman RHP Seth Blair and junior RHP Reyes Dorado combined for seven innings of one-run, three-hit ball Saturday, and junior 1B Ike Davis (3-for-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI) led the offense. After working 6.1 IP in Tuesday's win against Arkansas, sophomore RHP Mike Leake (6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K) bounced back to shut down the Trojans on Sunday, and the Sun Devils gave him all the support he would need with four runs in the third. ASU has out-homered opponents 31-4 and has a .326/.456/.594 line as a team.

Notes: The Wildcats scored two runs in the first Friday for junior RHP Preston Guilmet, who kept Cal State Fullerton scoreless until a three-run eighth inning. But Arizona answered with six in the bottom of the frame, capped by sophomore 1B Rafael Valenzuela's pinch-hit, three-run triple. On Saturday, junior LHP Daniel Schlereth (3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K) was brilliant in relief to help senior LHP David Coulon (5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) improve to 4-0. The Titans chased junior RHP Ryan Perry (1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER) early Sunday and led 8-0 in the fifth inning, then held off Arizona's spirited comeback attempt.

Notes: With closer Rob Wooten nursing a back injury, the Tar Heels moved sophomore RHP Alex White to the bullpen, and junior RHP Adam Warren (6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER) did just fine in his place on Friday night, with plenty of help from junior C/RHP Tim Federowicz (3-for-4, 2 2B, 6 RBI; 1.1 IP, 0 R). Sophomore LHP Rob Catapano allowed five runs over four innings Saturday, but relievers Collin Bates and White combined to throw seven shutout innings of relief, and sophomore OF/1B Dustin Ackley scored the winning run in the 11th on a sacrifice fly. Freshman RHP Matt Harvey (6.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K) made his first weekend start on Sunday, defeating his former Fitch (Conn.) High teammate Jesse Hahn (6 IP, 4 R, 2 ER). Wooten returned to strike out the side in a perfect ninth.

Notes: Missouri's stellar pitching shined against overmatched Toledo. On Friday, junior RHP Aaron Crow (9 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 15 K) threw his first career complete-game shutout and shattered his previous career high for strikeouts in a game (10); he whiffed 11 of the 15 batters he faced during one stretch from the fourth to the eighth. Junior RHP Ian Berger (8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K) was nearly as impressive Saturday, and sophomore RHP Kyle Gibson (8 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K) dominated in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader to improve to 4-0.The Tigers staffed the second game, starting with three one-hit, shutout innings from freshman RHP Brad Buehler (3 IP, 1 H, 0 R), and their offense scored in each of the first six innings to build an insurmountable 11-0 lead.

5. Vanderbilt

Notes: The Commodores won a three-game series from South Carolina for the second year in a row. For the second straight Friday, sophomore LHP Mike Minor (8.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 10 K) pitched very well but surrendered the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth. But this time, junior SS Ryan Flaherty homered in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings, then delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 13th. Junior RHP Nick Christiani (2.1 IP, 9 H, 9 R, 5 ER) was hammered in Saturday's loss, and junior RHP Steven Schwartz (4.2 IP, 9 H, 7 ER) fared little better. Redshirt freshman RHP Caleb Cotham (5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K) improved to 3-0 with a strong outing Sunday, and sophomore 1B Andrew Giobbi (2-for-5, 2 R, GS, 4 RBI) led the offense.

Notes: Sophomore LHP Eric Erickson (6 IP, 7 H, 1 ER) improved to 4-0 in Friday's win, as the Hurricanes posted seven runs on North Carolina State ace lefty Eric Surkamp over the first three innings. Junior 2B Jemile Weeks (4-for-5, 2B, 3B, 3 R, 4 RBI) led the Miami offense in that one. Freshman LHP Chris Hernandez (7.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) improved to 3-0 in Saturday's pitching duel against Clayton Shunick. Junior RHP Carlos Gutierrez served up a three-run homer to Matt Payne in the eighth inning Sunday that gave the Wolfpack an 11-10 lead, and the game was called moments later because of Miami's travel curfew. Senior RHP Enrique Garcia (1.1 IP, 6 H, 4 ER) started Sunday's game and struggled again.

Notes: The Dirtbags swept their third consecutive weekend series, setting new season highs for runs scored on Saturday and Sunday. LBSU scored two runs in the third Friday, which was all the support necessary for senior RHP Andrew Liebel (9 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K), who finally picked up his first win of the year after three tough-luck no-decisions in extra-inning wins. Junior 1B Shane Peterson had a monstrous weekend for Long Beach, going 9-for-13 with three doubles, a homer and nine RBIs. Freshman CF Jonathan Jones made his first three collegiate starts against the Trojans, driving in the go-ahead run each of the last two games: first with an RBI triple in the eighth inning Saturday, then with an RBI single in the seventh Sunday.

Junior OF Logan Power (4-fo5-, HR, 3 RBI) led a 21-hit attack Friday in support of junior RHP Lance Lynn (6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K). Power stayed hot Saturday, going 3-for-4, and junior RHP Scott Bittle (4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) picked up the win in relief of junior RHP Cody Satterwhite (5 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K). The Rebels mustered just two hits Sunday against MSU's Ricky Bowen (9 IP, 0 R, 1 BB, 11 K).

Junior RHP Scott Gorgen (8 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K) turned in another masterpiece Friday, and junior CF Ollie Linton and junior SS Ben Orloff combined to go 7-for-9 with seven runs from the first two spots in the lineup. Linton (3-for-6, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI) and sophomore DH Francis Larson (5-for-5, 3 2B, 5 RBI) led an 18-hit attack in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader in support of junior RHP Bryce Stowell (6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K). Larson (3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) had another big game in the nightcap to help sophomore RHP Christian Bergmann (5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER) improve to 3-0.

Notes: The Seminoles had a strong week against visitors from the Peach State, capped by their second sweep of Georgia Tech in the last two seasons. Sophomore OF Ohmed Danesh's walk-off, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth capped a comeback that began with senior 1B Dennis Guinn's two-out walk with the bases empty. On Saturday, sophomore 2B Jason Stidham hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to 14 games and help sophomore LHP Matt Fairel (8 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K) improve to 4-0. Stidham (4-for-5, 3 RBI) and senior RHP Ryan Strauss (6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 8 K) helped FSU coach Mike Martin pick up his 1,500th career victory Sunday. Martin joined Texas coach Augie Garrido and Wichita State coach Gene Stephenson as the only active members of the 1,500-win club.

Notes: UCLA's bats have awakened from their early slumber. The Bruins averaged just 4.25 runs per game through their first eight contests but have scored more than nine runs per game over their last seven. Junior SS Brandon Crawford went 9-for-15 in UCLA's four games last week to raise his average 60 points, and sophomore OF Gabe Cohen (7-for-19, 2 HR, 6 RBI) also had a strong week to shake off his early struggles. Senior 2B Alden Carrithers (12-for-22, 7 RBI) continued his hot hitting. Junior LHP Tim Murphy (6.2 IP, 12 H, 7 ER) had his first rough start of the year Thursday, and Cal Poly scored two in the ninth against junior LHP Brendan Lafferty to earn a one-run win. Freshman RHP Dan Klein got the start Friday and allowed five runs without getting an out, but sophomore RHP Charles Brewer (9 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K) was brilliant in relief, and the Bruins hung seven runs on Poly lefty Derrick Saito in the second. Sophomore LHP Gavin Brooks (5 IP, 5 ER) lasted long enough Saturday to earn his first win of the season.

Junior RHP Tyson Ross (5 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) improved to 2-0 in his return from soreness in his lat on Thursday. Cal mashed six homers in a slugfest in the first game Saturday, and four Bears registered three or more hits apiece. Sophomore LHP Chris Petrini (6.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 9 K) took his first loss in the nightcap. Eight different Bears recorded hits Sunday in support of senior RHP Alex Rollin (5.2 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K).

The Gamecocks trailed 2-1 Friday before scoring single runs against Vandy ace Mike Minor in the eighth and ninth, but senior RHP Curtis Johnson (5 IP, 1 ER) gave up a solo homer to Ryan Flaherty to force extra innings in the bottom of the ninth, and the 'Cocks lost in 13. Every South Carolina starter recorded a hit Saturday and seven recorded multiple hits in support of junior LHP Will Atwood (6.2 IP, 5 ER). Sophomore RHP Blake Cooper (6 IP, 6 R, 5 ER) ran into trouble in Vandy's four-run fourth inning Sunday, and the Commodores piled on with four more in the seventh.

Redshirt freshman RHP Shawn Tolleson struck out six and walked two in a two-hit, complete-game shutout Saturday. Sophomore 1B Dustin Dickerson hit a three-run homer (his first long ball of the year) to break a 4-4 tie in the fifth inning Sunday, making a winner out of sophomore RHP Willie Kempf (6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER).

Cowgill homered again Saturday as part of a 15-hit barrage, and senior LHP Andrew Albers (5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) picked up the win in relief of junior RHP Scott Green (4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K). Senior 2B Ryan Wilkes homered in all three games for Kentucky, which also got a long ball from senior OF Sawyer Carroll on Sunday in support of senior RHP Greg Dombrowski (5.1 IP, 1 ER).

Junior RHP Bobby Gagg (7 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) was outdueled by Michigan's Zach Putnam on Saturday, but the Chanticleers bounced back Sunday with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth on junior OF David Sappelt's solo homer to earn an 11-9 win. Freshman 2B/OF Scott Woodward stole three more bases this weekend and now has 17 on the season in 18 attempts.

Corriston went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBis on Saturday in support of senior RHP Thad Weber (7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K). Senior 2B Jake Opitz went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs Saturday, then had three more hits Sunday, including a rally-starting single in Nebraska's two-run 10th.

The Cavaliers mustered just one run on six hits Sunday against Duke's Grant Monroe and Alex Hassan.

In the anticipated nightcap against host Coastal Carolina, Recknagel went deep yet again to help junior RHP/DH Zach Putnam (6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 10 K) pick up his first win of the year. Senior RHP Ben Jenzen (2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER) was hit hard Sunday against Coastal, and junior LHP Mike Wilson (4.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER) did not provide much relief. Sophomore OF Alan Oaks homered twice in that one, his first long balls since the regional-winner against Vanderbilt's David Price last June.

Junior SS Jordy Mercer had three hits and swatted his fourth homer of the year in a losing effort Sunday, as sophomore RHP Tyler Blandford (5 IP, 7 H, 7 ER) surrendered a tie-breaking three-run homer in the fifth inning.
