Last Week: 2-1 Overall: 14-2, 2-1 in Big 12. (0-0 vs. Top 25) Weekend Series: 4-0 UT's stellar pitching staff carried the load once again in a Big 12-opening series win against Missouri. The Longhorns allowed just five runs in three games; the staff boasts a 1.41 ERA and a 104-35 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 140 innings. After rain postponed Friday's opener until Saturday, sophomore RHP Chance Ruffin (8.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) lost the week's Marquee Mound Matchup to Missouri All-American Kyle Gibson (9 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 11 K). Sophomore RHP Brandon Workman (7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K) improved to 3-1 with a 0.63 ERA in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Freshman RHP Taylor Jungmann threw four hitless, scoreless innings of relief Sunday to pick up the win, as Texas rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, pushing across the final run on an error. 2. North Carolina
Last Week: 4-0 Overall: 14-2, 4-1 in ACC. (2-1 vs. Top 25) Weekend Series: 4-0 The Tar Heels swept a rain-shortened series at Virginia Tech, stretching their winning streak to six games. After "slumping" the previous weekend against Clemson, junior 1B Dustin Ackley had a monstrous week, going 11-for-17 (.647) with seven runs, nine RBIs, four home runs and a double in four games. Freshman 2B Levi Michael (2-for-5, 5 RBI) hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning Friday to put UNC up for good and make a winner out of junior RHP Alex White (6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K). Michael had three more hits Sunday, junior C Mark Fleury added a grand slam and the Tar Heels stole eight bases -- their most in a game since 2002. Junior RHP Adam Warren (5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER) picked up his 25th career win in that one, and sophomore RHP Matt Harvey (4 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) earned his first career save. Last Week: 2-1 Overall: 13-4, 2-0 in Big 12. (3-2 vs. Top 25) Weekend Series: 3-0 The Aggies won the first two games of their series against Baylor; rain pushed the finale to Monday in Waco. Texas A&M has won six straight against the Bears and nine of 10 since the start of the 2007 season. Sophomore LHP/OF Brooks Raley (8 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K) outdueled Baylor ace Kendal Volz on Saturday to improve to 4-0, 2.08. Raley added two hits and two RBIs on Sunday, junior SS Brodie Greene added four hits and junior 2B Nick Anders smacked two home runs in support of junior RHP Alex Wilson (6.1 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 8 K). (5-1 vs. Top 25) Weekend Series: 2-1 Fullerton's eight-game swing through Mississippi and Texas was a rousing success, as the Titans hit .392 and posted a 3.42 ERA to go 7-1 against stiff competition. Sophomore OF Josh Fellhauer had a monstrous week, going 14-for-21 (.667) with two homers, three doubles and nine RBIs. In Friday's rout of Rhode Island, the Titans pounded out 16 hits in support of freshman RHP/OF Tyler Pill (7 IP, 11 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 K). Senior 1B Jared Clark (5-for-5, 3 R, 2B) led a 14-hit attack in Friday's win against Oklahoma State. Junior RHP Kyle Witten (5.1 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 7 K) suffered Fullerton's lone loss of the road trip on Saturday against Oklahoma State, as the Titans rapped out 14 hits but left nine runners on base. Freshman LHP Noe Ramirez (7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K) improved to 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA in Sunday's win over URI. Last Week: 3-2 Overall: 13-4, 2-1 in SEC. (0-0 vs. Top 25) Weekend Series: 3-1 LSU opened SEC play by winning a tight, competitive series against Kentucky. Sophomore RHP Anthony Ranaudo (6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 13 K) turned in yet another overpowering performance in Game 1 on Saturday, improving to 2-0 and a 1.85 ERA with a 42-7 K-BB ratio in 24 innings. The Tigers mustered just six hits in support of sophomore RHP Austin Ross (6 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 7 K) in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader. Senior RHP Louis Coleman allowed just one run on four hits in a seven-inning complete game in the finale, and junior RHP Ryan Schimpf broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth with a two-run homer off UK freshman standout Alex Meyer (5 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 6 K in his first weekend start). Last Week: 3-2 Overall: 14-3, 0-0 in Pac-10 (2-1 vs. Top 25) Weekend Series: 3-0 Arizona State finished its week in Surprise with a 3-2 record against the two Big 12 teams from the Jayhawk State. Freshman Riccio Torrez (8-for-11, 4 R, 4 RBI, 2B, HR) played three infield positions in three games while also pacing the offense over the weekend. ASU scored six in the fifth Friday to help sophomore RHP Seth Blair (5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K) improve to 2-0 on the year. Freshman LHP Mitchell Lambson (5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 12 K) was a tough-luck loser in relief Saturday. Junior LHP Josh Spence, who left a March 1 game against Missouri after taking a line drive off his face, returned this week and allowed two runs in eight innings in two appearances, including four innings in Sunday's win. Last Week: 2-1 Overall: 10-5, 0-0 in CUSA. (5-1 vs. Top 25) Weekend Series: 1-1 The Owls took two of three from San Diego, and the series finale was canceled by rain. Junior RHP Mike Ojala (7.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) finally picked up his first win of the season Thursday, as sophomore OF Chad Mozingo (3-for-5, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR) led Rice's 10-hit attack. The Toreros managed an unearned run in the seventh inning Friday to prevent junior RHP Ryan Berry (9 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K) from recording his third consecutive complete-game shutout; he settled for his third straight complete-game win, improving to 3-0, 1.42 with a 31-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 32 innings. The Owls were shut out on four hits Sunday in a game that was delayed for more than three hours by rain after the first inning. 8. Georgia
Last Week: 3-2 Overall: 15-2, 1-2 in SEC (0-0 vs. Top 25) Weekend Series: 1-1 Georgia's 14-game winning streak ended with a thud. The Bulldogs were swept in Saturday's doubleheader at Alabama, though they salvaged Sunday's series finale. Senior RHP Trevor Holder (5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 1 ER) took his first loss of the season in the opener, and sophomore RHP Justin Grimm (4 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 2 BB, 8 K) was hit hard in Game 2. Georgia jumped out to a 7-0 lead Sunday, then fell behind 8-7, but junior RHP Rich Poythress homered to tie the game in the fifth, and the Bulldogs scored two runs in the sixth to win. Poythress has recorded four consecutive two-hit games. The Bears have lost six straight to Texas A&M and nine out of 10 since 2007. Junior RHP Kendal Volz (7 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 9 K) took his first loss of the season Saturday; he's now 0-7 with six no-decisions in his past 13 conference starts, and Baylor has averaged just 1.875 runs per game in his past eight conference starts. Junior LHP/OF Aaron Miller (4 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 K) got the start Sunday and earned a no-decision as junior RHP Craig Fritsch (1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER) took the loss in relief. Senior DH/RHP Brock Bardeen carried UCI to two wins on the week, first driving in the tying run in the ninth and pitching three scoreless innings in a midweek win against Southern California, then belting a sixth-inning grand slam Friday to turn a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead Friday. Bardeen then took the mound and worked 1.2 innings to earn the win in relief of junior LHP Daniel Bibona (5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K). Sophomore RHP Crosby Slaught held Tulane scoreless through a career-high 5.1 innings in a no-decision Sunday, and junior 2B Casey Stevenson's RBI single in the ninth gave Irvine a walk-off win. Last Week: 4-1 Overall: 14-3, 5-1 in ACC (3-0 vs. Top 25) Weekend Series: 4-0 Miami needed ninth-inning heroics to earn walk-off wins Friday and Sunday to escape with a home-series win against Duke. The Hurricanes scored three in the fifth Friday to erase a 4-1 deficit, then won in the ninth on junior 2B Scott Lawson's RBI double. Junior RHP David Gutierrez (7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) lost a tough pitchers' duel Saturday against Duke's Andrew Wolcott (7.1 IP, 6 H, 0 R). Sophomore 1B Matt Smith (3-for-4, 4 RBI) helped Ole Miss batter Vandy ace lefty Mike Minor (4.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R) in Friday's win, and three Mississippi hurlers combined to throw five scoreless, three-hit innings in relief of sophomore LHP Drew Pomeranz (4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 5 K). Junior OF David Phillips' three-run homer in the fifth broke open a close game in Sunday's early contest, and junior RHP Phillip Irwin gave up just four hits in a seven-inning complete game. Bethune-Cookman outhit the Sooners 14-6 on Friday and took a one-run lead in the top of the 10th, but Oklahoma rallied for two runs in the bottom of the frame, capped by sophomore OF Casey Johnson's walk-off RBI single. Johnson had three hits Saturday to lead a 12-hit attack against South Florida, and junior LHP J.R. Robinson (6 IP, 2 H, 0 R) picked up the win in relief. Junior RHP Garrett Richards (2 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER) was hit hard in Sunday's loss, and Oklahoma's late rally from an 8-2 deficit came up short. Tech broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the sixth to help sophomore RHP Deck McGuire (7 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 7 K) improve to 4-0, 0.94 with a 35-8 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 29 innings. The Jackets were outhit 9-5 in the game, but BC left 10 runners on base. Coastal mashed to its 12th straight win Sunday, as senior 1B David Anderson (4-for-5, 3 RBI) led a 13-hit attack in support of sophomore LHP Cody Wheeler (5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K). Coastal's 15-1 start is the best in school history through 16 games. Freshman DH/RHP Zack Cox (3-for-4, 2 R, 4 RBI, HR) led a 14-hit, three-homer attack Friday in support of junior LHP Dallas Keuchel (7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K). The Razorbacks scored six in the second Saturday and never looked back, though junior RHP Mike Bolsinger (2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 1 K) struggled with his control. Freshman LHP Drew Smyly (6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) was strong in a no-decision Sunday, and Cox (2.1 IP, 0 R, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) picked up the win in relief, as Arkansas broke a 2-2 tie with two in the eighth. Sophomore RHP Cole Cook (6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K) picked up the win in relief Saturday, as the Waves overcame a two-run deficit by scoring five in the ninth. Junior RHP Tyler Lockwood (6.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) was solid in a no-decision Saturday, but the Golden Gophers came from behind with three runs in the eighth against the TCU bullpen. The Frogs mustered just two runs on five hits Sunday, and sophomore RHP Sean Hoelscher (0.1 IP, 3 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) failed to get out of the first inning. Junior LHP Andrew Oliver (7 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 8 K) suffered his first loss of the year Friday against Cal State Fullerton. Seven Cowboys posted multihit games in Saturday's win against Rhode Island, and junior RHP Tyler Blandford (8.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 11 K) posted his second straight double-digit strikeout game. OSU overcame a 5-2 deficit with five in the sixth against Fullerton on Saturday to help junior LHP Tyler Lyons (8 IP, 12 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 6 K) improve to 3-0. Oklahoma State left 15 runners on base in Sunday's loss to URI. Junior C/1B Wes Dorrell (9-for-15, 5 RBI) and junior 1B/3B Adam Buschini (6-for-14, 6 R) paced the offensive barrage. Senior LHP Jared Eskew (2.1 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 7 ER) was shellacked in Friday's loss, but Poly got solid outings the next two days from sophomore LHP Matt Leonard (6 IP, 8 H, 3 ER) and junior RHP DJ Mauldin (7 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K). Junior OF Luke Yoder's grand slam highlighted Poly's seven-run third in the finale. Senior 3B Robby Cummings hit five homers and drove in 12 to lead UCSB's high-flying offense on the week. Sophomore LHP Mario Hollands (6 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 5 BB, 1 K) fell to 2-2, 3.72 in Friday's loss. The Gauchos produced 11 hits in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader in support of junior RHP Joe Gardner (8 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K). Junior RHP David Meals struck out four over 3 1/3 hitless, scoreless innings of relief to nail down the nightcap. Matthes leads the nation with 13 homers in 16 games. Senior RHP Austin Hyatt (8 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K) improved to 4-0, 2.06 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Junior 1B Brandon May (2-for-4, 2 R, 6 RBI, HR) hit a first-inning grand slam to kick-start the offense in Game 2, and freshman LHP Adam Morgan (7.1 IP, 8 H, 4 ER) struck out a career-high nine. The Tide rallied from an early 7-0 deficit to take an 8-7 lead on Matthes' three-run homer in the fourth, but Georgia bounced back to win. Minnesota came from behind Saturday with three runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by junior C Kyle Knudson's two-run double. Senior RHP Tom Buske (6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) stymied the Horned Frogs on Sunday, and freshman SS AJ Pettersen (2-for-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B, 3B) led the offense from the No. 9 hole. Minnesota also has quality wins this year against UC Santa Barbara, Washington and Hawaii. They made two more errors Friday and mustered just one hit in support of sophomore RHP Kyle Blair (8 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K). A rain delay of more than three hours ended junior RHP Matt Thomson's day after one inning Sunday, but junior RHP AJ Griffin (8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 8 K) shut down the Owls for the rest of the day when play resumed.

The Bears jumped on junior RHP Jorge Reyes (2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER) in the finale, and the Beavers couldn't come back despite a valiant relief effort from freshman RHP Sam Gaviglio (6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K).
