After "slumping" the previous weekend against Clemson, junior 1B Dustin Ackley had a monstrous week, going 11-for-17 (.647) with seven runs, nine RBIs, four home runs and a double in four games. Freshman 2B Levi Michael (2-for-5, 5 RBI) hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning Friday to put UNC up for good and make a winner out of junior RHP Alex White (6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K). Michael had three more hits Sunday, junior C Mark Fleury added a grand slam and the Tar Heels stole eight bases -- their most in a game since 2002. Junior RHP Adam Warren (5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER) picked up his 25th career win in that one, and sophomore RHP Matt Harvey (4 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) earned his first career save. The Toreros managed an unearned run in the seventh inning Friday to prevent junior RHP Ryan Berry (9 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K) from recording his third consecutive complete-game shutout; he settled for his third straight complete-game win, improving to 3-0, 1.42 with a 31-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 32 innings. They made two more errors Friday and mustered just one hit in support of sophomore RHP Kyle Blair (8 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K). A rain delay of more than three hours ended junior RHP Matt Thomson's day after one inning Sunday, but junior RHP AJ Griffin (8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 8 K) shut down the Owls for the rest of the day when play resumed.

The Owls broke a 6-6 tie with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth in the nightcap.
