2010 softball All-America team

The softball season is over, and now it's time to honor those who excelled and delivered great performances. Here is ESPN.com's 2010 All-American team.

CATCHER

Meagan May, Texas A&M

May No position offered more of a battle for the lone spot on this team than catcher, where Louisville's Melissa Roth, Ohio State's Sam Marder, Arizona's Stacie Chambers and Mississippi State's Chelsea Bramlett all put together seasons that would have earned the nod in most years. But there's no getting around May's 1.502 OPS as a freshman for Texas A&M. A season ago, the Aggies hit 35 home runs as a team. In her first season in College Station, May knocked 24 out of the park by herself.

FIRST BASE

Charlotte Morgan, Alabama

Morgan The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award winner clearly had an impact off the field, but she also earned recognition on the field in her final season. Despite playing the season, and much of her career, with a fractured foot, Morgan led the Crimson Tide in RBIs and slugging percentage. She helped Alabama to a sweep of the SEC regular-season and conference tournament titles by pacing the league in slugging during conference play. On a young team that needed to replace five starters from 2009, she offered constant leadership.

SECOND BASE

Jen Yee, Georgia Tech

Yee Whether it's relevant to her success at the plate at Georgia Tech, the fact that Yee wants to take her engineering degree and design bats sums up one of the most prolific hitters to come across the college scene in a long time. Slappers occasionally hit .500 for a season, but Yee slugged her way to a staggering .568 batting average and 2.002 OPS as a senior. She finished the season with 29 home runs, 63 RBIs and just six strikeouts in 148 at-bats.

SHORTSTOP

Katelyn Boyd, Arizona State

Boyd Boyd doesn't get All-American bonus points for playing through an injury, but putting up the numbers she did this season (despite playing essentially the last month with broken bones in the thumb and index finger of her left hand) says something about how special her skills are. The sophomore followed an impressive debut season by hitting .415 with a 1.296 OPS. She also hit 15 home runs and stole 27 bases. With good range and a strong arm, she anchored a defense that turned 30 double plays.

THIRD BASE

Maggie Viefhaus, Michigan

Viefhaus Michigan's stunning exit in the super regionals denied its senior star an extended national stage in the World Series, but that doesn't obscure a brilliant end to a brilliant career. Viefhaus started at third base in every game Michigan played during her four seasons in Ann Arbor. As a senior, she led the Wolverines with a .381 batting average and .863 slugging percentage and ranked second on the team with a .519 on-base percentage. She had only 30 errors in 236 games at the hot corner, including just six this season.

OUTFIELD

Taylor Schlopy, Georgia

Schlopy Schlopy spent part of last summer playing for Team USA in the Japan Cup and then spent the college season looking like a woman among girls. She paced the Bulldogs with a .418 batting average, 30 steals and a .566 on-base percentage (the last being no easy task on a roster that includes Alisa Goler). But Schlopy is as complete a speedster as there is in college, accumulating 11 home runs and 24 extra-base hits. In center, Schlopy has good range and a knack for big plays.

OUTFIELD

Kelly Majam, Hawaii

Majam Hawaii had to wait a year to get Majam on the field after an injury erased what was to be her debut season in 2009. That patience paid off in a big way. Majam led the nation with 30 home runs. Whether putting the ball over the fence or waiting out a walk, she showed time and again during the postseason that she can get it done against any level of competition. With that power and a .519 on-base percentage, she's the ultimate leadoff hitter.

OUTFIELD

Alissa Haber, Stanford

Haber The Pac-10 never figured out Stanford's star outfielder, which explains why she leaves as an ESPN.com first-team All-American in three of four seasons. She saved her best for last, setting career highs in batting average (.446), on-base percentage (.529), RBIs (35) and stolen bases (23) as a senior. Just for good measure, she set a career low for strikeouts with just 16 in 175 at-bats and didn't commit an error in the outfield.

UTILITY

Megan Langenfeld, UCLA

Langenfeld If you watched the World Series, you saw all the evidence Langenfeld needed to earn this spot for the second year in a row. But it wasn't just a one-week run in Oklahoma City. Despite battling injuries that limited her ability to pitch for a good part of the season or play at all for a period of time, the senior hit .527 with a 1.752 OPS while playing in the toughest conference in the country. In the circle, she finished with a 1.53 ERA, a 14-1 record and three saves.

UTILITY

Valerie Arioto, California

Arioto With Megan Langenfeld and Danielle Lawrie around, she might have been the third-best multipurpose threat in the Pac-10. She might also have been one of the five best players in the country. Among Pac-10 hitters, Arioto ranked second to Langenfeld in both slugging percentage (.819) and on-base percentage (.590) without missing as much time as the UCLA star. Among Pac-10 pitchers with at least 20 starts, she trailed only Lawrie and Kenzie Fowler with a 1.43 ERA and 264 strikeouts.

PITCHER

Danielle Lawrie, Washington

Lawrie She was the best at the end of last season, she was the best coming into this season and she left the World Series as, indisputably, the best pitcher in the college game. Batting prowess doesn't really factor in consideration as a pitcher on this team, but it explains something of what made Lawrie so special because she managed to find a way to be even more valuable this season -- going from a good power hitter to perhaps the most dangerous offensive weapon in Washington's lineup. College softball won't be the same without her.

PITCHER

Jen Mineau, Fordham

Mineau The Atlantic 10 may not be on par with the top power conferences, although with the nation's two leading strikeout pitchers returning for two more seasons at Fordham and Massachusetts, respectively, it's a good place to catch some games, but check out Mineau's numbers against Texas A&M, California, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma: 31 IP, 23 H, 4 ER, 10 BB, 45 K. That's the mark of an ace who can shut down any lineup. Few pitchers have ever managed strikeout-to-walk numbers like 503 strikeouts to 34 walks.

PITCHER

Kenzie Fowler, Arizona

Fowler That the star freshman finally ran out of gas against an already red-hot UCLA lineup in the World Series is not nearly as representative of her debut -- or as telling for her future -- as how far her engine took her. She battled immense expectations, the best conference in the nation and an arm injury down the stretch to finish with a 38-9 record, 1.53 ERA and 371 strikeouts. Not to mention overcoming illegal-pitch issues to lead the Wildcats through the loser's bracket in Oklahoma City.
