Will Roberts tosses perfect game
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Virginia's Will Roberts tossed the first perfect game in school history, striking out 10 in the Cavaliers' 2-0 victory over George Washington on Tuesday.
The junior right-hander from Richmond needed 98 pitches in the eighth NCAA Division I nine-inning perfect game since 1957. Roberts (5-0) recorded 27 straight outs to complete the 19th perfect game of any length in Division I, and the first since Auburn's Eric Brandon in 2002.
Roberts also joined Maryland's Dick Reitz (1959) as the only pitchers to throw perfect games in Atlantic Coast Conference history.
The victory was the 2,000th overall for Virginia (25-2), ranked No. 1 in some national polls.
Tom Gately (2-3) took the loss for George Washington (7-18).
