Texas freshman takes men's 800
AUSTIN, Texas -- Natoya Goule from South Plains College broke the Texas Relays record in the women's 800 meters, clocking in at 2 minutes, 4.41 seconds Wednesday.
Goule shattered the previous mark of 2:08.20 by Clarisse Moh from South Alabama in 2008.
Texas freshman Mike Quercia won the men's 800 in 1:52.17.
Michael Morrison from the University of California had a narrow lead in the decathlon after Day 1 with 4,100 points. Texas-Arlington's Romain Martin is second with 4,065 points.
On the women's side, Chelsea Carrier of West Virginia had the lead in the heptathlon with 3,670 points. Kansas State's Ryann Krais was second at 3,452 points.
UTEP dominated the women's 5,000 as Risper Kimaiyo (16:36.20) and Kathya Garcia (16:39.20) grabbed the top two spots for the second consecutive year.
Daniel Mutai of Louisiana-Monroe won the men's 5,000 at 14:52.15.
