LOS ANGELES -- Day 1 of the USC Rising Stars Camp gave an opening look at some of the top players in the country while Day 2 produced a level of play from several of those recruits which resulted in quite a few scholarship offers from the Trojans coaches.

Let's take a position-by-position look at some of the top performers from the second day:

Quarterback

We knew coming into the camp that the USC coaches wanted to extend one offer to a quarterback and that offer came today when Jesse Scroggins (Lakewood, Calif.) got the nod after another solid session on Thursday morning. Scroggins did not commit but he said he could come to a decision in the next several weeks between USC, Florida and Tennessee. One other quarterback who looked good for the second day in a row was Jeremy Cannon (Concord, N.C./Northwest Carrubus). Cannon missed all of last year with an ACL injury but he has been a starter since his freshman year and based on what we saw today he should end up with plenty of scholarship offers when all is said and done.

Running back

Dontae Williams (Houston/Adline) from Texas put on another nice showing today after being a surprise on Day 1, when he showed up without much fanfare, and was generally considered the top running back in attendance. Williams said he was blown away by his trip west and there is definite mutual interest between him and the Trojans. Current USC commit Dillon Baxter (San Diego/Mission Bay) worked out a lot at receiver yesterday but today he saw a lot of time at tailback and he made several nice plays.

Wide receiver

DeMarco Cobbs (Tulsa, Okla./Central) was the top receiver in attendance yesterday but he did not participate today. Instead, Cobbs said he is close to making a decision on his college choice with the Trojans being his clear leader right now. Cobbs didn't feel he performed at his best at the camp; he is still adjusting to playing receiver after being a quarterback for his high school team, but he feels his natural athletic ability will eventually take over at the spot and he will be a dominant player. Kenneth Scott (Fontana, Calif./Colony) was here today and looked the best we've seen from him at any of the spring camps or combines. Kenneth showcased very nice hands and good body control with his long and lean frame. Class of 2011 recruit George Farmer (Gardena, Calif./Serra) showed up on Thursday morning at the camp and didn't take part in any of the drills, but he did walk away with an offer from USC, his ninth so far.

Tight end

Troy Niklas (Anaheim, Calif./Servite), another 2011 prospect, dominated the position on Wednesday and today he also got a look at defensive end. He could play at either spot with his athletic ability but we feel his future is on the offensive side of the ball. Another tight end who showed promise was Dallas Butler (San Diego/Mission Hills). Ronald Powell (Moreno Valley, Calif./Rancho Verde) was one of the defensive stars of the day on Wednesday but he took part in the Thursday afternoon session at tight end and showed that he could play that position as well, if needed. Powell could go down as one of the elite athletes in the nation this year.

Offensive line

It was a second strong day in a row for Arizona junior Christian Westerman (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and today we saw Nick Rowland (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) show why he belongs among the top-ranked offensive linemen on the West Coast this year. The Trojans coaches also did some mixing around on positions as Ricky Heimuli (Salt Lake City/Brighton) saw action today on offense.

Defensive line

It wasn't the same collection of talent we saw on Day 1 because players such as Jackson Jeffcoat (Plano, Texas/West) and George Uko (Chino, Calif./Don Antonio Lugo) did not take part in the Thursday session but there was still plenty to like along the line today. Specifically, there were three juniors who showed that they had what it takes to be elite prospects and the offers could be coming shortly from the Trojans. Antwaun Woods (Woodland Hills, Calif./Taft) is a prototype interior player with a thick frame and he has a meeting set with the USC coaches on Friday. Woods said he hopes to walk away from the meeting with his first offer. Jalen Grimble (Las Vegas/Bishop Gorman) is only 15 years old but already has a solid lower body and figures to grow into a solid player. An offer from the Trojans would be huge for his family because his cousin, Xavier, has already given a verbal to USC. Greg Townsend (Beverly Hills, Calif.) is the son of the former Oakland Raider of the same name and he formed a strong bond during the camp with Jeffcoat. No offer has come yet from the Trojans but Townsend said USC is his current leader.

Linebacker

Ronald Powell (Moreno Valley, Calif./Rancho Verde) took part in the morning session as an outside linebacker and he said he has no preference on where he would play in college, and the athlete saw action in the camp at MLB, SLB and TE. With a long look at Josh Shirley (Fontana, Calif./Henry J. Kaiser) as an OLB as well, the Trojans coaches are looking to find talented linebackers by moving players around to try to find the right fit. Shirley certainly seemed athletic enough to make the move if needed.

Defensive back

Perhaps the most intense player on the day was Dietrich Riley (La Canada, Calif./St. Francis), who seemed determined not to let any opponent catch a pass on him. Riley saw action at both corner and safety to prove his versatility and he looked good at both spots. Anthony Brown (Fontana, Calif./Kaiser) knew a good performance in this camp could lead to an offer and, sure enough, he met with USC coach Pete Carroll after the Thursday session and came away with his first offer. Ironically, Brown is known more as a tailback and he said the Trojans offered him as an athlete but it's clear that his future at USC would be on the defensive side of the ball. Brown is physically strong and he plays with an aggressive streak that would seem to fit well within a Pete Carroll defense.
