Lions make push for Lattimore
Running back Marcus Lattimore (Duncan, S.C./Byrnes), the No. 16 prospect on the ESPNU 150, remains one of two key targets as Joe Paterno tries to round out what is already a super 2010 recruiting class. Lattimore made an official visit to Penn State the weekend of Nov. 7 when the Nittany Lions played Ohio State. The previous weekend he made an official visit to Auburn.

"He's going to take his last three [official] visits," Lattimore's father, Vernon Smith, said Sunday night. "He's going to visit South Carolina Jan. 15, and then Oregon and Georgia the next two weekends. It's going to be visits three weekends in a row."
The general feeling is South Carolina is the front-runner to land Lattimore. However, Smith would not go as far as to say the Gamecocks have the edge.
"Nobody is really in front of anybody," Smith said. "Everybody is still in the running pretty much."
If the Nittany Lions think they are a long shot to land Lattimore, somebody forgot to tell Penn State assistant Bill Kenney.
"Coach Kenney has come down every week since the home visits started," Smith said. "Those [visits] have gone pretty good."
Joe Paterno will take his shot with his in-home visit late in the recruiting process.
"I think Joe Paterno is scheduled to come down Jan. 28," Smith said.
The 6-foot and 215-pound Lattimore finished his prep career at Byrnes with close to 8,000 rushing and receiving yards and 104 touchdowns.
Kurelic's Comment: I continue to think this is going to be a tough battle for the Nittany Lions to win. But it's not over until it's over and Paterno and Kenney continue to make their pitch.
