Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) tight end Xavier Grimble, one of the nation's top-rated players at his position, has been verbally committed to USC dating back to the summer of 2009.

Following a cloud of uncertainty in the wake of Pete Carroll's sudden move to Seattle, Grimble was left waiting to hear on the next head coach. Following a short search, Lane Kiffin has been hired to lead the Trojans into the next part of the Trojan history books.

A former offensive coordinator followed by two brief head coaching stints, Kiffin will return to USC, something Grimble was pleased to discover.

"It's pretty exciting," said Grimble. "It's good to know we have a good coach and I'm interested to get to know him. I was shocked because I've been watching USC and looking around on the internet to see who it was going to be and didn't see his name and I didn't think he would leave Tennessee. I'm glad, I feel bad for the guys going to Tennessee, but it's good for me."

Grimble, who has heard the talk of possible NCAA sanctions, spoke about his reaction when he heard the news of Kiffin returning to Los Angeles.

"They're having a big offensive class this year so that is nice for us," he said of Kiffin and his offensive history. "I know a lot of people were hyped when he got the hire at Tennessee. I've heard nothing but good things. It's a plus because this is what I wanted. I wanted to make sure they would get a good coach, and this is really good here."
