UK offers Louisville commit Moore

With UK's Joker Phillips and Louisville's Charlie Strong heading their respective programs, Jefferson County proves to be a bigger recruiting battleground than ever before.

Shortly after he was hired, Strong picked up a slew of Louisville commitments including a pair of Fern Creek teammates including running back Jerrell Moore and defensive tackle Jamon Brown.

But Phillips knows keeping a strong presence in the Derby City is as important as ever and isn't ready to give up the fight. To that end, Phillips extended a scholarship offer to Moore earlier this month.

"UK just offered me on Feb. 2," Moore told Kentucky Ink Tuesday. "UK started recruiting me my freshman year. They've always been around I was just waiting on that offer. It means a lot to me."

So how firm is Moore in his commitment to the Cardinals?

"I'm still committed to Louisville but I'm still open," Moore said. "I won't finalize anything until signing day. Louisville and Kentucky are my top two schools and I'm not going to make any big decisions. It's a toss up. I haven't really decided. No one is number one."

The speedy 5-11, 175-pound all-purpose back, who compared himself to Minnesota Vikings receiver and former Florida Gator Percy Harvin, rushed for over 900 yards and amassed over 800 yards receiving for the Tigers last season while piling up over 600 return yards and scoring 23 total touchdowns.

Although he grew up in Louisville, Moore says UK's early interest in him sparked an affinity for the Wildcats.

"It gave me a lot to think about," Moore said of Phillips' new scholarship offer. "I like the fan support. I like the environment. I've always wanted to go to UK ever since my freshman year."

Moore also said Phillips and Strong compare favorably to each other.

"They're both real down to earth, cool guys. They're both basically the same guy at different schools."
