Under Armour mailbag

Where will Chickillo, Kouandjio and Clowney end up? What college got the buzz?

I got a lot of questions regarding the Under Armour All-America Game and the practices leading up to it. Let's get to them.

Hey Corey, you were at the Under Armour All-American practices all week, what did you think about Christian Westerman (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton)? Is he still solid to Texas?
Roddy Price, Houston, Texas

I thought Westerman was as technically sound as you'll see from an offensive lineman in this class. He might have struggled in the one-on-one drills initially but you wouldn't have known that by the third day of practice. As for Texas, he's committed but I would say it's far from solid. Both USC and Auburn appear to be heavily in the mix.

Hello Corey, I'm thrilled to see that Anthony Chickillo (Tampa, Fla./Alonso) was named MVP of the Under Armour All-America Game. What are his future plans and do they include playing for the hometown school USF?
Pamela Atkins, Lutz, Fla.

USF is the hometown school, but Miami is the family school and Florida appears to be the school that's really stepped up its pursuit of the defensive end and become a contender. So I would say it's primarily a battle between Miami and Florida with USF on the outside looking in.

What were your thoughts on DT Gabe Wright (Columbus, Ga./Carver) and RB Isaiah Crowell (Columbus, Ga./Carver) this week? How is Georgia looking for both players?
Trammel Johnson, Columbus, Ga.

I think Wright is funny and extremely talented. He's also made it clear he's not interested in Georgia. I believe Auburn is the leader and Tennessee is right there as well. Crowell was the best looking running back in the practices by far. Now he's been between Alabama and Georgia, however Demetrius Hart's (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) switch to Alabama is something that could be telling.

Any thoughts on where Cyrus Kouandjio (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) is headed?
Lance Semayel, Iowa City, Iowa
He doesn't give much away in terms of hints, but the general consensus seems to think that Alabama is the team to beat.

Last week someone asked you about the buzz team at this week's Under Armour practices. Well who was it?
Chris Mullens, Chapel Hill, N.C.

Alabama and FSU had the most commits in the game, so they were a popular school to mention, but the buzz school was Auburn. The Tigers received commitments from Quan Bray (LaGrange, Ga./Troup County) and Robenson Therezie (Miami, Fla./Jackson) during the game and they have at least two more heavy leans that were involved in the game as well. Yeah I would definitely say Auburn was the team with the most buzz during the week and on game day.

Hey Corey, did you receive any hints from Jadeveon Clowney (Rock Hill, S.C./South Pointe) this week?
Campbell Frye, Columbia, S.C.

Nope, I think it's still Alabama and South Carolina. He's taking a visit to Florida State at some point this month but I still expect a South Carolina hat come national signing day.

Can Florida fans be put at ease now that Will Muschamp got his first guy in Jabari Gorman (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Pace)? I wasn't sure if he was going to pull a top player this year.
Christopher Bray, Ocala, Fla.

Are you serious? If Carrot Top was the coach he could pull top names to Florida. The Gators wouldn't hire a coach that can't recruit and believe me Muschamp can recruit and he'll show it over time.

Corey, I am a frustrated Georgia fan! How can we continue to lose the best in-state players. There's no reason Bray and Xzavier Dickson (Griffin, Ga./Griffin) shouldn't be Bulldogs. What is Mark Richt doing? Is he going to lose the rest of the dream team?
Kim Lassitter, Jacksonville, Fla.

I'm sure Richt and staff are working the recruiting trails as hard as anyone. I do believe Jay Rome (Valdosta, Ga./Valdosta) and Ray Drew (Thomasville, Ga./Thomas County) are heavy Georgia leans and if the Bulldogs can add Crowell and Rome's teammate Malcolm Mitchell that's not a bad haul. One thing I think that might hinder Georgia a little is the reputation that they are nice guys and the Auburns and Alabamas of the world are much more aggressive when it comes to getting their man. In SEC recruiting it's very possible that nice guys will finish last -- or at least 6-7.
