Jadeveon Clowney leads available DEs

With national signing day (Feb. 2) around the corner, here is a look at the top uncommitted defensive ends.

Jadeveon Clowney (Rock Hill, S.C./South Pointe)

Player rank: 1 | Position rank: 1 | Grade: 95 | Stars: 5
Height: 6-6 | Weight: 240 pounds | Evaluation
South Carolina Alabama Florida State Clemson LSU Ohio State

Why they want him: Right off the bat Clowney grabs your attention with a very impressive physical presence. As a pass rusher he is tough to contain, as he uses his long limbs and hands to club and punch by blockers. He also can be very quick off the snap, plays with a good motor and will pursue to the ball. He also possesses excellent straight-line game speed, which allows him to be a factor on plays all over the field, and has good overall athleticism.

Recruiting update: Clowney has two official visits in the books with his two leaders, South Carolina and Alabama. He scheduled a visit to Florida State for this weekend, but that was recently canceled. Clemson is penciled in for an official Jan. 28. If Clowney elects not to sign Feb. 2, he could possibly visit LSU or North Carolina after signing day. There's still a long way to go in this epic recruiting battle.

Jermauria Rasco (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy)

Player rank: NR | Position rank: 17 | Grade: 80 | Stars: 4
Height: 6-3 | Weight: 249 pounds | Evaluation
LSU Florida State Florida Arkansas UCLA Texas

Why they want him: Rasco is a defensive end who shows flashes of being a stout and disruptive presence. He has good size, a sturdy build and should be able to add more good bulk to his frame. He has a solid get-off and will flash some good quickness but needs to be more consistent.

Recruiting update: It has definitely been a roller-coaster ride for Rasco. His only official visit during the fall was to FSU. He thoroughly enjoyed his trip and the Noles are in the mix big time. He loved his trip to UCLA last weekend but distance will hurt the Bruins. A new team making a run at him is Florida. Coach Will Muschamp recruited him while at Texas. Speaking of Texas, the Horns fell out of favor with Rasco when Muschamp left but are back in it after hiring Beau Davis, who was recruiting him while at Alabama. Rasco was going to visit Arkansas this weekend but will trip to LSU instead.
