Hawkeyes flying high with top commitments
One of the nation's top quarterback prospects, Jake Christensen of Lockport, Ill., has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes over Arkansas and Michigan State, among many others. He passed for 3681 yards and 33 touchdowns as a junior.
The Hawkeyes also added a commitment from offensive lineman Kyle Calloway of Belleville-East, Ill., over an offer from Kansas, plus interest from Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Illinois and Missouri, among others. Iowa recently gained receivers Trey Stross of Avon Lake, Ohio, over West Virginia, Boston College, Ohio State, Maryland, Syracuse, Illinois, Purdue, Indiana and Kentucky, among others; and Marcus Wilson of Cherry Hill-Camden Catholic, NJ., over Penn State, Ohio State, Virginia, Boston College, Syracuse, Maryland, North Carolina and Rutgers, among others.
Virginia has its 16th commitment, as Class 2005 defensive lineman Antonio Appleby of Virginia Beach-Salem, Va., picked the Cavs over West Virginia, Syracuse, Duke, Maryland, Virginia Tech and North Carolina. Virginia recently gained receiver Kevin Ogletree of St. Albans-Holy Cross, NY., over Syracuse, Wisconsin and Boston College; and touted Top 100 offensive lineman Eugene Monroe of Plainfield, NJ., over Florida State, Miami-Florida, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Southern California, Michigan, LSU, Maryland, Rutgers, Boston College, Michigan State and Nebraska, among many others.
UCLA has a commitment from tight end Adam Heater of Snohomish, Wash., over Oregon. The Bruins recently gained defensive back Robert Kibble of Houston-Westfield, Tex., over Miami-Florida, Houston, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, SMU, Northwestern and Iowa State.
Houston pledged offensive lineman Jerrod Butler of Allen, Tex., over Colorado State. The Cougars recently gained defensive/offensive lineman Quinten Smith and defensive back Quinte Williams, both from Houston-Yates, Tex.

Baylor pledged tight end Jason Lamb of Richardson-Berkner, Tex., over Mississippi State, North Carolina, Tulsa and Wyoming. The Bears recently gained receiver/defensive back Carl Sims of Waco, Tex., and tight end Justin Akers of Deer Park, Tex.
Oklahoma State has pledged linebacker Brady Barree and running back Kevin White, both from DeSoto, Tex. The Cowboys recently gained offensive lineman Jeremy Broadway of Houston-Washington, Tex., over Arizona and Syracuse; defensive lineman Willie Williams of Dearing, Ga/Hutchinson CC, Kan; defensive lineman Josh Pinaire of Derby, Kan/Hutchinson CC, Kan; and receiver Tevin Williams of Stillwater, Okla/Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Okla.
Clemson has a commitment from Top 150 receiver Rendrick Taylor of Bennettsville-Marlboro County, SC., over Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida State, Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Stanford, Georgia Tech and Duke, among others. Defensive back/receiver Ramon McElrathbey of Atlanta-Mays, Ga., chose the Tigers, but quickly decommitted. The Tigers recently gained receiver/defensive back Tyler Grisham of Birmingham-Spain Park, Ala.
North Carolina has commitments from offensive lineman Andre Barbour of Atlanta-North Springs, Ga; defensive back Bryan Dixon of Tabor City-South Columbus, NC; and running back/linebacker Kennedy Tinsley of Greensboro-Dudley, NC. The Heels recently added Class 2004 running back Vince Wilson of Daytona Beach-Mainland, Fla., for this upcoming season.
