Luginbill's Take: Jimmy Clausen
Quarterback Jimmy Clausen (6-foot-3, 207) from Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, California has verbally committed to Notre Dame.
Luginbill's take Even after a top-five 2006 recruiting class, Jimmy Clausen's commitment is the biggest piece of the puzzle as to the future success of Charlie Weis at Notre Dame.
If Clausen can mentally adapt to the Division I level, the sky is the limit. Physically, there have been few quarterbacks to come along with his ability at the high school level.
I think the media attention that Clausen received since the completion of his sophomore season has been so overwhelming that I think he wanted to make a decision now and move on with his senior season without having any further distractions.
Clausen is a rare talent, and his commitment should only entice more top Class of '07 recruits to Notre Dame.
Tom Luginbill is the national director of recruiting for Scouts, Inc. Tom is a college football and recruiting studio analyst for ESPNU.
