Duke point guard's brother chooses UNC for football
There will be two shades of blue on display at the Paulus household in Dewitt, N.Y. -- Carolina and Duke.
Mike Paulus, the younger brother of Duke point guard Greg Paulus, will play football at Duke's biggest rival, North Carolina.
Mike Paulus is regarded by some as one of the top quarterbacks in the recruiting Class of 2007. As a junior last season at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, N.Y., he completed 131 of 234 passes for 2,084 yards, 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions for a team that finished 11-1.
"UNC recruited me the most and the hardest and showed me why I should take a visit," Mike Paulus said in an e-mail announcing the decision, The Post-Standard of Syracuse reported. "And when I did, I fell in love with it. I felt like USC and UNC both were home to me. I loved both and when it came down to it, my heart told me UNC."
His father, Dave Paulus, told the Durham Herald-Sun that Mike Paulus picked UNC over at least 28 other scholarship offers, including Alabama, USC, Syracuse and Tennessee.
"Quite frankly, I'm happy for the kids because they're both where they want to go to school," he told the newspaper. "Greg loves the environment at Duke and loves playing for Coach K [Mike Krzyzewski]. He's really enjoyed every moment there, and I think that's important.
"From the standpoint of Mike, he's really built a relationship, and that's where he wanted to go. That's where he wants to be."
