HOUSTON -- The state's top basketball recruit said he will honor his commitment to Texas A&M after meeting with new Aggie head coach Mark Turgeon.

Turgeon traveled to Houston on Sunday for a 1½ hour meeting with DeAndre Jordan, a 7-footer from Christian Life Academy.

"It was real important because I didn't know anything about coach Turgeon," Jordan told Houston television station KRIV. "A lot of the players at Texas A&M called me and told me all the things he was about, that he was a good guy, but I wanted to see it myself. So I met with him. I liked what he was talking about and where he is taking the program and that convinced me."

Texas A&M hired Turgeon on Tuesday after a five-day search to replace Billy Gillispie, who left College Station for Kentucky. Gillispie signed Jordan before his departure.

Jordan averaged 26 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 blocked shots during his senior year of high school. Ranked the eighth-best recruit in the country by the recruiting Web site Rivals.com, he was also pursued by Florida, Indiana, LSU and Texas.

Jordan said he'll report for summer school June 1.
