Minnesota reaches agreement to return money to NIT
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota agreed to return money to the NIT because the Gophers used ineligible players during games in 1996 and 1998.
The Gophers generated between $100,000 and $200,000 during those two tournament appearances, athletic director Joel Maturi said. The school and the NIT agreed not to divulge the amount of the payback.
Maturi met with the NIT board of directors last week. NIT executive director Jack Powers did not immediately return a call Tuesday.
