SWAC champion
How They Got Here: With top-seeded Mississippi Valley State losing in the SWAC's quarterfinals, the door was open for the Hornets to Dance. It was nearly slammed shut several times. The Hornets beat the seventh, sixth and fifth seeds to earn the bid. But they did so by a point, in double-overtime, and by five in the title game. Whew! But the season was all about survival after starting 3-12 and losing five of its first six SWAC games. Now winners of 13 of 15 games, Alabama State the owner of a well-earned NCAA bid.

PLAYER TO WATCH
Malcolm Campbell | F | Senior
Campbell not only led the Hornets in scoring and assists during the regular season, but also was as consistent as they come down the stretch as Alabama State won 10 of 11 games. Campbell was in double figures in each of the last 10 games, scoring 21 against Texas Southern and 21 against Jackson State in the season finale.
