Bond to transfer after semester
BERKELEY, Calif. -- California forward Erik Bond asked for a transfer this week and was given his release by the school Wednesday.
The sophomore will finish the semester then transfer. The school wasn't sure where he planned to play next.
If Bond goes to another Division I school, he must sit out a year, which would leave him with about 1 seasons of eligibility.
The 6-foot-7, 205-pound Bond started Cal's opener against Cal Poly, but came off the bench the next two games. He was averaging 1.7 points and 0.7 rebounds.
Bond redshirted in 2001-02 following ankle surgery. As a freshman last season, he played in all 31 games, averaging 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds.
